Celtic must secure Abu Fani transfer

Celtic had one of their busiest ever summer transfer windows last year when they saw a wave of players make moves in and out of Parkhead.

One player the Hoops brought in during that period was Liel Abada, who joined from Israeli club Maccabi Petah Tikva in a deal worth a reported fee of £3.5m.

During his debut season at Parkhead, the winger went on to make 54 appearances for the Bhoys across all competitions, showing that he was certainly a prominent figure for Celtic throughout the campaign.

In those appearances, the 20-year-old scored 15 goals and delivered 11 assists in total.

Taking this into account, it’s safe to say that the Hoops were right to bring the young attacker to the club and give him the chance to shine.

Now that the summer transfer window is set to open for business tomorrow, this upcoming period could give the club the chance to replicate a similar sort of masterclass that they pulled off with Abada.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Hoops have been scouting Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani with a potential summer swoop in mind.

As a product of Haifa’s youth system, as Abada was from Petah Tikva, the midfielder has made 99 appearances for the Israeli club across all competitions, scoring ten goals and delivering seven assists along the way.

For his country, the midfielder has made 45 appearances across their youth and senior teams, finding the back of the net on six occasions.

In January, journalist Sanny Rudravajhala quote-tweeted a now-deleted video clip of the 24-year-old keeping possession of the ball for his side during a game against Maccabi Tel Aviv, which he described as being a “thing of beauty”.

Moving forward, with Celtic and Ange Postecoglou showing just how beneficial it can be for the club to dip into the Israeli transfer market in terms of their move for Abada, if a move for Abu Fani can bring a similar sort of success to the side, then this should be a deal that the Hoops look to secure as soon as possible.

Everton transfer news on Gomes

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Everton are now ‘ready’ to sell Andre Gomes.

The Lowdown: Expensive dud

Gomes signed for the Goodison Park outfit from FC Barcelona for £22m back in the summer of 2019, and now earns a whopping £120,000-per-week on Merseyside.

It is safe to say that it has not quite worked out for the Portugal international, who has seen his game time limited by constant injury problems, and when he has been on the pitch, he has struggled to make any sort of real impact, scoring just two goals and making a mere seven assists over four seasons at the club (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: ‘Ready’ to sell

Taking to Twitter, O’Rourke has revealed that Frank Lampard’s team are now ‘ready’ to sell Gomes this summer:

“Everton are ready to offload Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes this summer.”

The Verdict: Get rid

Gomes is 28 years of age now, and so the summer provides the optimum time to get rid and get a decent fee for him.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

When he has been available, Lampard has Richard Buxton has pointed out.

Nonetheless, the Blues already have plenty of options in the centre of midfield already, and so Gomes would not really be that much of a miss if he were to leave.

West Ham: Journalist shares big Eriksen transfer update

Journalist Paul Brown of The Daily Star has just shared a significant West Ham United transfer update involving Brentford star Christian Eriksen.

The Lowdown: Eriksen courted…

The Denmark’s footballing legend looks set to be one of the big name free agents of this summer window with no sign of an extension being announced at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Eriksen appears to have his pick of suitors, including West Ham’s arch London rivals Tottenham among others across Europe.

The Irons have now been touted with a potential move to sign the 30-year-old for manager David Moyes as the Scotsman gears up for what will be an interesting 2022/2023 Premier League season.

The Latest: West Ham officials dispatched…

According to The Star, West Ham officials were dispatched midweek to run the rule over Eriksen and Denmark teammate Joakim Maehle ‘with a view to a double swoop’.

The report goes on to state that the Hammers, and by extension club owners GSB, are ‘considering a bid’ for the ex-Inter Milan playmaker who has shone on a return to Premier League football.

The Verdict: Ideal?

Amid links with a return for Jesse Lingard, West Ham could land an ideal creative alternative in Eriksen going by his numbers over 2021/2022 and ‘superstar’ status – as labelled by Bees teammate Pontus Jansson.

According to WhoScored, he finished last season as Thomas Frank’s best player by average match rating whilst also averaging their highest rate of key passes per 90 in the final third.

All of these facts point towards a potentially brilliant West Ham signing.

Premier League records for teams to aim to beat in the future

The Premier League is an exciting league, some would say the best league in the world. Each year many sports news channels are reporting new records being set as teams perform better, transfer records are broken, or the teams doing badly set another record (they probably didn’t want to). In the 2021/2022 season, a few records have already been broken – Paul Pogba became the first Premier League player in history to provide four assists in an opening week fixture. Pep Guardiola managed to get to the 500-point milestone in just 213 games, the quickest by any manager. And Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk sets the Premier League record for most home games unbeaten since his debut.

So what records could be broken in the coming 2022/2023 premier league season or the season after that? Below we look into some of the records currently set and whether they may be beaten in the coming seasons.

Most Premier League points in a season

Currently, Manchester City (much to Manchester United’s misery) sits on the throne for the most Premier League points in a single season. In 2017/2018, Manchester City managed to get an impressive tally of 100 points.

With the Premier League becoming more competitive each year, can this be beaten in the years to come? It’s going to be challenging, especially with even more talented players joining lower ranked clubs than they used to. This could be a record that is going to be in the record books for many years to come.

Most Premier League titles

Man United have won the most Premier League titles since it’s been called the Premier League. At the moment their record stands at 13 titles, with Chelsea and Manchester City currently at five and Arsenal have won 3 titles

This record is here to stay for a few more years at least. With 5 being the closest to Man United’s 13, we will be waiting for another 10 years or so until we start talking about this record being broken. Manchester City is performing incredibly well at the moment and with the transfers they are doing, are showing that they are here to stay. Maybe they will be the team to hold the record one day.

Fewest Premier League points in a season

You have to feel sorry for whoever holds this record but at the moment it is Derby County with 11 points in the 2007/2008 season. Sunderland is second with 15 points in 2005/2006 and Huddersfield is third with 16 points in 2018/19.

Will the record be broken in the seasons to come? We will have to wait and find out! 11 points are particularly low and would require a very disastrous season to be on less.

Most Premier League points in a season without winning the title

In the season where Man City made the record for most points in one season at 100, Liverpool came very close in second. In the 2018/19 season, Liverpool managed to achieve a total of 97 points, falling just 3 off City. This was agonisingly close and in many other seasons would have won Liverpool the title. The consolation prize is that they won the award for most Premier League points in a season without winning the title.

Could this point tally be beaten in the years to come? Liverpool and Manchester City are still very close and competing at the highest of levels. It’s possible but the teams around the two of them are strengthening each year making the competition even harder. Some would argue the Premier League is the hardest it has ever been.

Most consecutive Premier League wins

The record for most consecutive Premier League wins is currently a draw with both Manchester City (26 August 2017 – 27 December 2017) and Liverpool (27 October 2019 – 24 February 2020) both on 18.

Deep down both teams would love to beat this record. Both Liverpool and City are at a very similar level and competing for all the trophies at the moment. If they could win this record, it’s another thing they can boast about and take away from their rival. That said, with the overall standard of all the teams in the league improving, this record is only going to get harder as the years go by. Could the new transfers that Pep Guardiola wants help them reach new heights? They have already signed Erik Haaland who is bound to be a big success for City just like Jack Grealish currently is.

The Premier League is full of statistics which get broken each year. What statistics do you think will be broken in the years to come? Are there any which you particularly want to see broken? Have we missed some that you think should be added? Let us know in the comment box below.

Fabrizio Romano gives important LFC update

Liverpool have already secured their first signing of the summer after confirming that Fabio Carvalho will join the club, and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source.

What’s the latest?

According to Italian transfer insider and journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s intentions for the former Fulham player have been revealed.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Romano tweeted:

“Liverpool won’t loan Fabio Carvalho out next season. He’s gonna be part of the first team as Jurgen Klopp is convinced he could become an important player very soon.

“Fulham wanted him to stay on loan but it’s never been an option, and Klopp is waiting for Carvalho.”

Supporters will be excited

The prospect of having a new young player joining the team and being integrated in the side ahead of next season will surely excite Liverpool supporters, especially after seeing the impact new signing Luis Diaz has made on the attacking threat of the team in such a short time.

Carvalho has been impressive during his time in the Championship with Fulham, and his performances have clearly caught the eye of the powers at the Merseyside club with the view that he can play an important part in the team next season.

In 36 appearances the 19-year-old has scored ten goals and contributed eight assists, creating 13 big chances, making 1.7 key passes and 1.1 tackles whilst winning the majority of his ground duels (51%) and proving successful in the majority of his dribbles (53%). That’s evidence that he could offer a fresh perspective in terms of creativity and comfortably compete for a spot in the attacking positions of the team.

It was originally thought that the youngster would be loaned back to Fulham and the newly Premier League promoted side were reportedly keen for the star to return to Craven Cottage for another season, but it’s clear now given Romano’s report that it won’t be a possibility.

With that being said, the Reds can now look forward to seeing the young player thrive in their team and see the potential he can offer first-hand at Anfield. It will be interesting but exciting to see how he fits into the already hugely competitive starting line-up next season.

Predicted Spurs XI, team news v Norwich

Tottenham Hotspur know a point will secure them a place in the Champions League next season as they travel to Norfolk to face Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Antonio Conte has transformed the north London outfit since arriving in November as Nuno Santo’s replacement and in recent weeks, their hard work on the training pitch has come to fruition.

Last week, Spurs defeated arch-rivals Arsenal and then Burnley to move into that fourth spot with everything in their own control. Now they go up against a side already banished to the Championship.

After an illness scare in midweek, it will be interesting to see what sort of side the Italian head coach names, here’s what we are predicting…

In goal, Hugo Lloris is expected to remain, given he is the no.1 choice and the club captain. And with the Lilywhites still without Cristian Romero, there should be no changes to the backline either.

That means Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez continue in a back three, with Ryan Sessegnon and Emerson Royal on either flank as wing-backs. Sergio Reguilon is also still absent through injury.

In midfield, it would be a surprise to see any changes, so Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg partners Rodrigo Bentancur again.

But further up the pitch, we could see the one and only change to the starting XI as Dejan Kulusevski comes in for Lucas Moura.

The £18m-rated Brazilian, described as a “nightmare” by Dier in the past, just hasn’t offered as much threat as the Swede since he arrived on deadline day in January.

He comes back into a front three involving Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, who was a big doubt heading into kickoff due to illness. There’s no way he misses a game of this nature.

Predicted Spurs XI (3-4-2-1): Lloris; Davies, Dier, Sanchez; Sessegnon, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Emerson; Son, Kulusevski; Kane

Aston Villa linked with Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Aston Villa have been name-checked with an interest in AS Roma attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan by journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

The Lowdown: Mkhitaryan at Roma

Mkhitaryan has impressed in recent seasons after leaving Arsenal for Roma back in 2019. The Armenia international made a loan move permanent as a free agent and has turned out on 119 occasions for the Serie A giants.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/aston-villa-latest-news/” title=”Aston Villa latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 33-year-old has scored 29 times in a Roma shirt, taking his tally for club and country to 201, however, he is out of contract with the club at the end of June, leading to rumours of a possible Premier League return.

The Latest: Pedulla’s post

Pedulla took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to share an update on Mkhitaryan’s future.

He stated that Roma wants to renew the 33-year-old’s deal, but said ‘watch out’ for a possible ‘surprise’ move to Villa. Inter Milan, Napoli and Tottenham were also name-checked alongside Villa in regards to a potential swoop.

The Verdict: Avoid?

Although Mkhitaryan has impressed in Italy, contributing to 24 goals in 34 league games last season, Villa could be better off avoiding a free transfer.

They have now secured a permanent deal for Phillipe Coutinho and also have club-record signing Emiliano Buendia on the books, two high quality attacking midfield options. Therefore, if Steven Gerrard wants another this summer, the club may benefit from looking to land a younger player who can learn from Coutinho and Buendia and will be happy to be a bit-part player.

You’d expect that Mkhitaryan would want regular game time in the final years of his career, something Villa may not be able to offer, but it could still be one to watch closely.

Conte looks to repeat Inter trick at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte could be looking to repeat his success at Inter Milan amid links to Victor Osimhen…

What’s the word?

According to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini to Radio Kiss Kiss, Spurs are among the teams interested in signing the Napoli striker during the summer transfer window (via Sport Witness).

He said: “Victor Osimhen’s situation is very clear, if great offers arrive Napoli would listen to them without thinking twice. But it will take a very high amount to snatch him from Neapolitan society, it will not be easy.

“There are clubs from England like Newcastle and Tottenham that could go on the assault in the summer.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

It remains to be seen how much the 23-year-old would command this off-season, though he is currently valued at €70m (£60m) by CIES Football Observatory, who assess the transfer value of professional footballers on a scientific basis.

Imagine him and Harry Kane

It’s also believed that this move wouldn’t be down to any Harry Kane departure, so the pair could well emerge as a potential partnership under the Italian head coach heading into the 2022/23 season.

Conte ended Inter’s 11-year wait for a Scudetto by winning the Serie A title last season and he did so by deploying a two-man attack, in which Romelu Lukaku – now at Chelsea – partnered Lautaro Martinez.

In this case, Kane can fill the Belgian’s role, albeit at a far greater level, given his ability to drop deeper as a playmaking option, whilst Osimhen could be the pacier and trickier player to nip in behind the defence.

The prolific Nigeria international has averaged a goal contribution once every 95 minutes across all competitions this term, having registered a total of 17 goals and six assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Compared to his positional peers in Europe across the last 365 days, the Napoli marksman is in the top 4% for shots (3.85 per 90) and the top 6% for non-penalty goals (0.65 per game), proving that he isn’t relying on a gifted spot-kick and can generally form chances himself, via FBRef.

“Osimhen is a thoroughbred bomber. He can become a super striker over time. He has to understand a few things, and then he can become a world-class centre forward,” once claimed his manager Luciano Spalletti.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United loanee Odion Ighalo has previously waxed lyrical about Osimhen’s work rate for the team to Elegbete TV (via Goal.com), claiming the 6 foot 1 marksman has a “lion’s heart” as he “has the mentality of a winner.”

He is also blessed with searing pace – during his time in Ligue 1, only Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe could match his speed numbers.

Just imagine him playing in off Kane in the Premier League, his skillset could be an ideal fit, not just for the English top-flight but also in Conte’s proven and successful system.

Osimhen and Kane could strike fear into many a defence for the next few years and as such, chairman Daniel Levy must approve any move for the free-scoring £60m-rated animal.

Newcastle ready to pounce on Philippe Coutinho

A major Newcastle United transfer claim has emerged on their interest in signing Philippe Coutinho this summer.

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that the Magpies will make an offer to the Brazilian in the upcoming window if given the opportunity to do so.

He is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona and they will need to fight the Villans to land his signature ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Steven Gerrard still wants Villa to sign Coutinho, but Newcastle are watching this with interest.

“At the end of the month Villa have to tell Barcelona whether they intend to take up the option to buy him – and if they hesitate I’m told Newcastle will look to make a proposal to the player.”

PIF’s best deal yet

Bringing Coutinho in on a permanent deal in the summer would be PIF’s best piece of business so far since taking over the club in 2021.

They brought in a host of players in the January window to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad, including Dan Burn, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier.

This deal, however, would be their biggest statement to date as they would be signing a top-class player in what should be the peak years of his career at the age of 29. He was previously valued at a whopping £135m by Transfermarkt and this shows how much potential he has.

The Brazilian would also come in with a wealth of Premier League experience. Coutinho has played 167 matches in the English top-flight throughout his career, scoring 45 goals and providing 40 assists as he has proven that he can regularly contribute in the final third.

In his last campaign for Liverpool, he averaged a phenomenal SofaScore rating of 8.01 across 14 matches in the division as he scored seven goals and provided six assists – creating 2.9 chances per game. If Newcastle can get him playing anywhere near this level then they will have an extremely special player on their hands.

He has proven his quality in England and still has plenty left to give at his age. This means that he would be a sublime signing for Eddie Howe’s team and one that would represent a major coup for PIF because of his pedigree.

It would send out a statement to other teams as it would show them that Newcastle mean business in the market and will be able to attract mercurial talents, like Coutinho.

Newcastle transfer news on Dybala

Newcastle United have reportedly now ‘made contact’ over the possibility of signing Paulo Dybala on a free transfer in the summer.

The Lowdown: Set to leave

Dybala is now set to leave Juventus as a free agent this summer, after failing to agree on a new deal with the Old Lady.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-6/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Currently rated at £36m by Transfermarkt, the club who end up signing him would be getting a real bargain on their hands, signing a player who has racked up 14 goals and six assists this season.

The Latest: Contact made

Taking to Twitter, reliable ESPN journalist James Olley has revealed that the St. James’ Park faithful are one of a number of clubs to have ‘made contact’ with the representatives of Dybala over a potential move in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Arsenal have also done the same, although nothing is at an ‘advanced stage’ yet, and Dybala is ‘assessing’ his options.

The Verdict: No-brainer

Signing a player of Dybala’s quality on a free is surely a no-brainer for the North East club.

The Argentina international has recorded over 200 goal contributions for both club and country over the course of his career so far, and is in his prime at 28 years of age.

Described as ‘world-class’ and ‘phenomenal’ by former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, brining in Dybala would pave the way for other stars to arrive on Tyneside, which would really help elevate Eddie Howe’s squad.
