Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Struggles in Home Run Derby Debut

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a pretty disappointing outing in his Home Run Derby debut.

The New York Yankees star only ended up hitting three total home runs during his three-minute period and was eliminated in the first round. He swung 37 times, but only crushed three of those pitches out of Truist Park. His three homers traveled 463 feet, 409 feet and 400 feet, and he wasn't able to hit one out during the bonus round.

Chisholm's outing caused him to instantly be eliminated from advancing in the Derby. All of the other seven participants hit at least 15 home runs in the first round.

Here's a summary of Chisholm's hits, via Home Run Report.

Chisholm's three home runs hit from 37 swings were the fewest in the first round since 2014, according to Jayson Stark. It's important to remember the format was different then, too.

It doesn't seem like Chisholm took the advice from his Yankees teammate and 2017 HR Derby winner Aaron Judge in regards to having fun and pretending to just take batting practice. Judge was there on the field watching Chisholm, and he was there to console him right after his round.

Announcers Left Stunned by Umpire's Blown Call to End Diamondbacks-Astros Game

The Houston Astros won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday afternoon thanks, in part, to a brutal call by home plate umpire Brian Walsh.

With his team up 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, closer Josh Hader delivered a 3-2 pitch to Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte—one that was pretty clearly a ball and would have put runners on first and second. Walsh, however, saw it differently, and rung up Marte to give Houston the win.

Here's a look at the pitch:

Pretty clearly a ball.

As you can hear in the video, Arizona's broadcast team was left stunned by the home plate ump's call.

"Oh no. Oh no…" reacted Diamondbacks play-by-play announcer Steve Berthiaume. "That's a called strike three to end the game."

"[Hader's] slider was never in the strike zone," added analyst Bob Brenly. "Ever."

With the win, Houston improves to 60-42 while Arizona—losers of three-straight—drops to 50-53 and sits 5.5 games back in the National League wild-card race.

'We are nothing without the fans' – Thomas Frank attempts to build bridges with Spurs supporters after chorus of boos following Fulham defeat

Thomas Frank said Tottenham are “nothing without our fantastic fans” as he looked to build bridges with supporters after criticising them for booing Guglielmo Vicario in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham. Spurs suffered their fourth home loss in all competitions in a game which saw the Italian goalkeeper jeered for his mistake in the build up to the second goal.

  • Vicario made costly error as Spurs slipped to another home loss

Looking to bounce following successive defeats against Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in the Premier League and Champions League respectively, Tottenham found themselves 2-0 down inside six chaotic minutes against Fulham.

After defender Kenny Tete put the visitors in front after four minutes, Marco Silva’s side soon doubled their lead when Spurs shot-stopper Vicario made a costly error in the lead up to Harry Wilson’s long-range strike.

Racing off his goal line to thwart Fulham striker Raul Jimenez, Vicario mis-controlled possession with his weaker left foot, before clearing the ball straight to midfielder Josh King, who teed up Wilson for his stunning effort from distance.

And following his mishap, former Empoli ‘keeper Vicario was met with the full force of the angry Tottenham faithful, who booed him every time he touched the ball in what proved to be another defeat on home soil for Frank’s men.

In addition to their loss against Fulham, Spurs were also beaten by Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, while they also drew with Wolves and Manchester United.

Tottenham manager Frank labelled fans' boos as 'unacceptable'

Coming to the aid of Vicario after the full-time whistle, Tottenham head coach Frank said supporters who jeered the 29-year-old were “not true fans” of the club, labelling the boos as “unacceptable.”

“I didn't like that our fans booed at him [Vicario] straight after and a few times he touched the ball,” Frank told “They can't be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you are on the pitch.

“And we do everything we can to perform. After, fair enough, boo, no problem. But not during. That's unacceptable in my opinion.”

  • Dane attempts to soothe relations with 'fantastic' Spurs faithful

However, Frank has now looked ease tensions by stressing the importance of the fans’ support as Tottenham look to get back on track when they travel to Newcastle in the league on Wednesday.

In his pre-match press conference, the Dane said: “As I said after the game I completely understand the frustration, if you don't win there will always be a frustration. That is normal, it is part of it.

“Especially as we haven't won as much as we would have wanted to at home, not only this year but the last long period, maybe years, maybe more.

“So the frustration grows a little bit more. That's understandable. It is my job to do what I can to make sure we are calm and look at the things in a way where we split things up in terms of performance, what is impacting it, how we try to build the team.

“We are nothing without the fans. No club is anything without the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is nothing without our fantastic fans, nothing. We need each other.

“There is nothing we want more than making them happy in every way and my point that during matches that is where we need each other.”

Vicario refused to criticise Spurs supporters after Fulham match

Vicario is expected to remain between the sticks as Tottenham look to gain revenge over Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who defeated Frank’s charges 2-0 in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on 29 October.

Speaking to after the Fulham game, Vicario was big enough to address the Spurs fanbase after his error, saying: “The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that.

“The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger mountain to climb.”

And when asked about being booed by his own fans, Vicario added: “I’m a big man, what can I say? We cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think. It's on us to stay more calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept.”

Glamorgan return to top-flight return after Derby washout

Gore's unbeaten fifty guides Falcons to first win of season

Despite strong spells from Warrican and Mujeeb, fielding lapses cost Royals in a tight finish

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Aug-2025

Karima Gore scored his second fifty of CPL 2025•CPL T20

Karima Gore continued his superb form in CPL 2025, scoring his second consecutive half-century to guide Antigua and Barbuda Falcons to a commanding six-wicket victory over Barbados Royals on Saturday. Chasing 152, Falcons rode on Gore’s unbeaten 64 to claim their first points of the tournament in front of a home crowd. After a disappointing loss against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their season opener – despite Gore’s 61 – Falcons bounced back with a disciplined all-round performance. Winning the toss and opting to field, the Falcons bowlers kept Royals in check for most of the innings. Quinton de Kock provided a brisk start with a fluent 57, and captain Rovman Powell added a late flourish with a powerful unbeaten 51 off just 24 balls to take Royals to 151 for 6. Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers for Falcons, returning 2 for 15 in an economical spell. In response, Falcons lost a couple of early wickets, but Gore held the innings together. Batting at No. 3, he anchored the chase, rotating strike effectively and finding the boundary when needed. He scored 39 off his first 41 balls, and by the end of the 16th over, Falcons still needed 45 off 24. Gore then accelerated, smashing 19 runs off his next six deliveries – including two consecutive sixes off Eathan Bosch in the 18th over – to ease the pressure. Eventually, it came down to six off the final over, and Gore sealed the chase with two balls to spare.Royals will be left ruing their missed opportunities in the field. Several dropped catches and missed run-out chances allowed Falcons and Gore to flourish. The fielding lapses not only released pressure but also gave Gore at least two reprieves, which he capitalised on to steer the game in Falcons’ favour.Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican and offspinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman conceded just 43 runs from their eight overs combined and picked up a wicket each, but it wasn’t enough to contain Falcons.

Farke has found a new Dallas-type player in “unbelievable” Leeds star

Leeds United aren’t going to be heading straight back down to the Championship without at least putting in a fight.

The last time the Whites were relegated back down to the EFL’s elite league, they only managed to accumulate a sorry 31 points from 38 matches, with a concerning 78 goals leaked.

Already, with just nine games played this time around, Leeds are occupying 15th spot in the Premier League with a promising 11 points tallied up, with an early Brenden Aaronson effort sealing a third league win of the season against relegation rivals West Ham United on Friday night.

This promising start bodes well for Leeds being able to remain as a Premier League team, with Match of the Day’s Gabby Logan revealing at the weekend that the last ten promoted sides who have got to that 11-point total after ten games have all beaten the drop.

Leeds will just want to remain steady as wins slowly but surely continue to be picked up, with Stuart Dallas previously playing the role of being a calming and reliable presence perfectly when past anxiety crept in at Elland Road.

Why Stuart Dallas is a Leeds icon

While the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, and Raphinha stick out in recent memory as flashy entertainers in West Yorkshire, the Northern Irishman always stood out as being “Mr Reliable” for the Whites, as he was once affectionately labelled by former Premier League great Kevin Phillips.

267 Leeds appearances would come Dallas’ way in total, with the 34-year-old only getting better as time went on in a Whites shirt, even as he navigated the tough step-up to the Premier League.

Eight goals would fall into the adaptable number 15’s lap during his first-ever top-flight campaign, with his ability to line up all across the pitch – which included Dallas even lining up as a defensive midfielder on one occasion – making him a dependable asset right up until an unfortunate injury ended his playing days.

As former Leeds manager David O’Leary put it back in 2021, Dallas epitomised the tag of being an “unsung hero” throughout his long-standing affiliation with the club, with the one-time Championship title winner always putting in a top shift when pulling on Leeds white.

Daniel Farke could well feel he’s unearthed a new Dallas-style revelation in his current ranks, with the ace in question similarly full-blooded with his commitment to the Leeds cause so far this season.

Farke's "unbelievable" new Stuart Dallas

Leeds’ impressive summer recruitment has undoubtedly helped them to keep their heads above the relegation zone during the early stages of the 38-game campaign.

Indeed, Noah Okafor has already been heralded as a key “difference-maker” by Leeds-based content creator Oscar Mario, and it’s hard to disagree with that assessment, as the lightning-quick winger already has two Premier League goals in his back pocket. Alongside the Swiss international, Sean Longstaff has also stood out as a sterling bit of business, having only cost a reasonable £12m to obtain back in July.

Already, Longstaff has been able to endear himself to his new set of supporters by hammering home strikes such as this one he emphatically fired home against AFC Bournemouth in late September, with Dallas still being remembered to this day for being a player that similarly scored some memorable goals, namely that famous breakaway strike that was put away at Manchester City under Marcelo Bielsa when Leeds had been reduced to ten men.

More importantly, though, as Leeds face another battle against the drop, the ex-Newcastle United midfielder has also displayed plenty of bite and fight that’s reminiscent of the now-retired 34-year-old in his Elland Road prime, with a combined eight tackles and duels won last time out against the Hammers.

All-in-all, Longstaff just seems to have that perfect blend of skill and determination that Dallas also possessed in spades, with his eagerness to get stuck in and battle also regularly being coupled with a hunger to create openings and play on the front-foot, as seen in him creating a high five big chances so far this season, which hasn’t been surpassed by anyone else in the division.

He is, of course, still in the infancy of his Elland Road career, but if he keeps going in this same electric manner, he will surely etch his name into the West Yorkshire outfit’s hall-of-fame as another “unbelievable” – as he was once branded by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer – Premier League performer, alongside some revered company.

Arsenal sold Hale Ender for £5m, now he's outperforming Saka & Gyokeres

It’s not been the perfect start to the season for Arsenal, but it’s been pretty close.

With seven games played, Mikel Arteta’s side sit atop the Premier League table, one point ahead of Liverpool.

In the Champions League, the Gunners have won both of their opening games without conceding a goal, and eased through the Third Round of the League Cup with a heavily rotated side.

What makes this start all the more impressive is the fact that neither Bukayo Saka nor Viktor Gyokeres are firing on all cylinders just yet, and are actually being outperformed by a player sold by the club for next to nothing.

Saka & Gyokeres' starts to the season

Starting with Saka, it has already been an eventful season for the Englishman. As early as his second start of the season, at home to Leeds United, he was forced off with another hamstring injury.

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast’s Where Are They Now series.

Fortunately, it wasn’t anywhere near as severe as the injury that had seen him miss large parts of last season, and after missing the games against Athletic Club, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest, he returned in the second half of the match against Manchester City.

Since then, the Hale Ender has clearly been trying to get back up to speed, and while they may well take a little longer, he’s still been an effective threat on the right-hand side.

For example, while he scored the penalty, he probably should have racked up a few assists against West Ham United, as he amassed an expected assists figure of 1.11, created one big chance and played two key passes.

Given his performances and output over the last few years, it’s surely just a matter of time before Saka is racking up goal involvements for fun this season.

However, when it comes to Gyokeres, rightly or wrongly, there are a few more doubts over how impactful he could be this year.

Now, to his credit, the former Sporting CP star has already found the back of the net three times in seven league appearances, but the last one of his goals came against Forest, which was six appearances ago.

Yet, while this isn’t ideal, the Swede has been slowly improving game by game, by making better runs, holding the ball better, and, crucially, pulling opposition defenders away from his teammates.

In all, while neither attacker is at their very best at the moment, they’re getting there, although they are being outperformed by a winger sold almost a decade ago.

The ex-Arsenal ace outperforming Saka & Gyokeres

Unfortunately, there are more than a few ex-Arsenal players who have gone on to thrive after leaving the club over the last decade or so, just like Serge Gnabry.

The German international joined the Gunners from Stuttgart in July 2011, but was sold to Werder Bremen for just £5m five years later, with just 18 first-team appearances and a failed loan to West Bromwich Albion to show for his time in England.

It took no time at all for the youngster to prove the North Londoners wrong, as he ended his first season back in Germany with 13 goal involvements in 27 appearances, which was enough to earn a move to Bayern Munich.

The German giants sent the dynamic winger on loan to Hoffenheim the following season, where he racked up 17 goal involvements in 26 appearances, which was enough to see him given a chance in Bavaria in 18/19.

The 30-year-old seized that chance with both hands, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists in 42 appearances, totalling 2544 minutes, which translates to a goal involvement every other game, or every 121.14 minutes.

Since then, the Stuttgart-born game-changer has produced 162 goal involvements in 295 games for FC Hollywood and earned 53 senior caps for Germany, in which he’s scored 23 goals and provided nine assists.

With numbers like this, and a trophy cabinet few in the game can match, it’s hard to disagree with talent scout Jacek Kulig’s assertion that he’s “one of the best wingers in World football.”

There is also no sign of him slowing down, as in ten appearances this season, he has scored three goals and provided four assists.

Ultimately, while hindsight is always 20-20, Arsenal must surely regret selling Gnabry, as he could still be a significant part of Arteta’s team today if they hadn’t.

Jake Libby double century keeps Worcestershire on top at Hampshire

Worcestershire compile the third-highest first-class score in their history as hosts struggle in response

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay30-Jun-2025Hampshire 68 for 3 (Varma 10*, Brown 7*, Taylor 2-16) trail Worcestershire 679 for 7 dec (Hose 266, Libby 228, Roderick 80) by 611 runsJake Libby achieved his second career Rothesay County Championship double century as Worcestershire compiled the third-highest first-class score in their history.Stand-in captain Libby batted throughout a 10-hour vigil to secure a personal best 228, while underpinning his side’s vast 679 for 7 declared. His double century was paired with Adam Hose’s on day one – making it the first time two Worcestershire batters had passed 200 in an innings, while Gareth Roderick’s 80 kept him company for much of day two.The declaration at tea left Hampshire 32 overs until the close, and during the evening they managed to lose their top three on a lifeless pitch to end the day on 68 for 3 – an ominous 611 in arrears.Libby is built for long innings. He has a sound defence, enough shot-making to avoid building pressure on himself, and the mental fortitude to become unmovable.Aged 21, he scored a double ton in Nottinghamshire’s Second XI. On Championship debut, Libby scored a 247-ball century. In 2021, he batted for 681 minutes – two minutes shy of the longest Championship innings – to save a match against Essex. This innings shouldn’t have come as a shock to anyone, especially when it became clear before lunch on day one that the Hampshire bowlers were in for a torturous time with the pitch and Kookaburra ball. While Hose scored with abandon, Libby frustrated and accumulated. The pair put on 395 with their contrasting style until Hose’s departure late on the opening day.Nightwatcher Adam Finch and Ethan Brookes fell in the morning session but Hampshire only managed to pick up one bowling point, with Worcestershire counting the maximum five batting points to reverse their batting woes this season.Finch edged the three-wicket James Fuller behind, while Brookes left a straight one from Kyle Abbott. But Libby persisted, passing 150 with his sole six – towering Liam Dawson straight down the ground – and found Roderick a similarly stubborn partner.Roderick had barely scraped 250 runs together in 16 previous innings this season, but given the perfect batting conditions, upped the price on his wicket. It wasn’t pretty viewing in the roasting south coast sun, but it kept the scoreboard slowly ticking and the Hampshire bowlers, eight of whom were used in total, toiling.Roderick’s second fifty of the season came in 114 balls, but it was overshadowed by Libby raising his bat on 200 after 399 deliveries.Roderick top-edged a sweep to fall for 80 and Matthew Waite was carelessly run out before Tom Taylor added 51 with Libby. With a new ball ready after tea, Libby decided to put Hampshire’s bowlers out of their misery by concluding his and Worcestershire’s innings, having cleared his previous high of 215.The 679 was the highest Worcestershire score away from Visit Worcestershire New Road and the highest total by a visiting team to Utilita Bowl – only the 714 Hampshire dropped on Notts in 2005 stands above it.Hampshire’s response was not wholly unsurprising after 160 overs of draining fielding in mercury rising temperatures.Fletcha Middleton and Ali Orr had already been given lives when chances were shelled in the slips, but didn’t cash in.Middleton never looked comfortable before a hooping in-swinger from Taylor hit his pads in front, while Orr seemed to find rhythm until shabbily turning Finch to leg slip.Nick Gubbins followed to give Taylor a second leg-before wicket but Tilak Varma and Ben Brown remained for the last 40 balls of the day.

Gill, Buttler, Sai Sudharsan take GT to 209

They must all be starting the games in IPL 2025 thinking they can have Gujarat Titans (GT) in trouble if they take two early wickets. Or two in the first half even. However, their top three just keep scoring big runs. All three of them now sit in the top six as GT ended with 209 on a typical low Jaipur pitch. Shubman Gill, the top-scorer with 84 off 50, told Jos Buttler 190 was going to be a good score, but Buttler said that despite low bounce it was a true pitch and a quick outfield. So he didn’t quite expect a cakewalk.Gill and the new orange cap holder B Sai Sudharsan got GT off to another measured start with a 93-run opening stand, their fifth of 50 or more in nine innings this IPL. RR had the chance to break this partnership early, but Sudharsan was dropped on nine by Shimron Hetmyer. With just one aerial hit in the powerplay, GT still managed to take 53, thanks to Gill’s 25 off 16.The easing of field restriction didn’t slow Gill down. He took the slog-sweep on even on this low track, and sent Riyan Parag into the stands. Wanindu Hasaranga then created some pressure with three boundaryless overs. It probably resulted in the wicket of Sudharsan for 39 off 30 and a slow start for Buttler, but Gill broke the shackles of four overs for 23 runs with two sixes off Yudhvir Singh in the 14th.Having got a sighter of 7 off 10 balls, Buttler then proceeded to ruin the analysis of Hasaranga with three sixes and a four in the 15th over. He scored 41 off the next 14 balls he faced, including a six over long-on and a reverse-ramped four off compatriot Jofra Archer. Buttler was denied strike in the last two overs, but Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan still managed to get 22 off them.
