He was right: Man United fans discuss Mourinho’s quote on McTominay

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Jose Mourinho’s words on Scott McTominay from earlier in the season, and are in agreement that their former boss was spot on in his appraisal of the youngster.

McTominay’s emergence in the first-team has come amidst a terrible period for the club, and after the midfielder won the Player of the Month award for April, some cruelly suggested that it was merely down to the lack of quality at the club right now. Very harsh on the Scottish international, that.

Which “global superstar” has just been named Man Utd’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video above…

The 22-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Red Devils this season, and his passion and desire to play for the shirt has been a breath of fresh air in comparison to the more entitled players surrounding him, who appear to be playing for themselves instead.

After the 3-1 loss to West Ham this season, Mourinho said: “He is a special character.

“He is a special personality and a team in a negative moment needs this kind of mentality that Scott McTominay has.”

After some United fans have been harsh on the academy graduate in recent weeks as a result of the club’s dire run of form, some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are now realising that the former Chelsea boss was right about McTominay and have changed their opinions on him…

Why Lee Bowyer would be the perfect fit for QPR

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports, Lee Bowyer, who is a reported candidate for the vacant QPR role, is keen on stepping into Steve McClaren’s shoes amid ongoing doubts over his future at Charlton, despite the incredible job he has done for the Addicks this season.

The former midfielder might be relatively new to the managerial scene, but he is already making a huge impression in League One and looks like the perfect fit for QPR at the current time.

On the chalkboard

McClaren, who has ironically been nicknamed ‘McClown’, was fittingly given the boot on April Fools Day, with John Eustace stepping in on an interim basis.

Bowyer has been identified as one of the names on the shortlist having guided Charlton into the play-off places this campaign despite a lack of funding and confidence from the club’s controversial owner, Roland Duchatelet, who is inexplicably yet to offer him a new deal.

What would undoubtedly be Charlton’s loss, though, would certainly be QPR’s gain – Bowyer has all the attributes to succeed at Loftus Road, and here’s why.

A perfect fit

Aside from the fact they have both fallen from grace in recent years, something else QPR and Charlton share in common is a dodgy owner who insists on making things as difficult as possible for those who take the gauntlet, with Bowyer and former R’s boss McClaren suffering as a consequence.

The former has been forced to work with stringent funds since being appointed permanent boss in September 2018 and has done a remarkable job. Even the January loss of Karlan Grant hasn’t halted the Addicks’ progress – they are unbeaten in their last eight league games.

QPR and Tony Fernandes are also no strangers to selling their star players – Bowyer would certainly be able to make the best out of a difficult situation and achieve results regardless of a lack of financial backing, that is if his Charlton exploits are anything to go by.

With hefty financial problems to contend with, Fernandes would surely love to have a man as adaptable as Bowyer at Loftus Road.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

The 42-year-old is also willing to use the youngsters where possible – he has brought through the likes of George Lapslie at the Valley – and would be a great man to have in charge from Eberechi Eze’s perspective.

The England Under-21 international fell out of favour under McClaren in his last few weeks as Hoops boss but will undoubtedly be a key player going forward; Bowyer would likely put his trust in the number 10, who is one of QPR’s most influential players on his day, to prove that he’s worth his salt.

Another positive for QPR if they appoint Bowyer is that he would likely bring the diamond midfield approach – a thoroughly successful one at Charlton – to Loftus Road, which would mean that he can accommodate the aforementioned Eze and Freeman down the middle, where they are both at their most effective.

Leroy Sane shows signs for Germany he can move out of Raheem Sterling’s shadow

[ad_pod ]

Raheem Sterling this, Raheem Sterling that. The media’s most-wanted-individual-turned-media-darling is hogging all of the headlines right now, and rightly so in fairness.

Seven goals in his last four games, including hat-tricks against Watford and the Czech Republic, the Manchester City forward is at the top of his game, showing world-class ability in the process.

However, one man who plays alongside him at club level, but doesn’t get near enough media coverage for his exquisite ability, is Leroy Sane.

442oons have charted the entire career of Man City’s main man Sergio Aguero through song in the hilarious video below…

The German international appears to be trusted less by Pep Guardiola, having made just 18 league starts compared to Sterling’s 24 – even then, Sane has still managed to score eight goals and record nine assists.

At international level, during a time where Joachim Low has been notably ruthless since his side’s World Cup embarrassment in dropping names such as Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, Sane has stepped up to the plate.

His performance against the Netherlands on Sunday evening was one to behold, and showed that, even despite suffering racist abuse from his nation’s own supporters, he can be trusted by his coaches to fulfil his duties to an exceptional standard.

The former Schalke winger netted Germany’s opening goal against the Dutch with an excellent effort inside the far post, his strike being one of two shots from a total three that managed to hit the target.

Sane impressed throughout against stellar names such as Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt in the opposition defence, and managed to complete an eye-catching three dribbles, which drew a whopping five fouls from the Dutch players.

Much of the focus has rightly been on his City counterpart Sterling, but Sane’s excellent performance for his country could well be the catalyst for him stepping out from the Englishman’s shadow in the closing weeks of the season.

Patrick Bamford pulls off masterstroke after saying pressure is on Sheffield United

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford says the pressure is now on Sheffield United, in post-match comments reported by The Yorkshire Post, following the Blades’ 1-0 win at Elland Road on Saturday, and he has pulled off a genius masterstroke with his comments.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Whites had the opportunity to extend their lead over their Yorkshire rivals to five points when they hosted them at the weekend, but instead they ended up on the losing side meaning they now trail Chris Wilder’s men by a point.

With eight fixtures left to play it is very much still to play for in the automatic promotion race in the Championship, and Bamford was keen to put some pressure on the Blades, as reported by The Yorkshire Post.

He said: “The gap is not massive. It is tight and having been up there all season we have dealt with the pressure pretty well. Now the pressure, I think, will turn on Norwich and Sheffield.

“Norwich have been handling it, but for Sheffield it is the first time they have been in this position. It will be interesting to see how they cope with it, no longer being the underdogs and being in that pole position.”

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…

Brilliant from Bamford

On the back of such a disappointing result, the former Chelsea man has played this one very well.

While everyone will be talking about Leeds bottling promotion, the 25-year-old has spiced things up with his comments on Sheffield United.

Of course, the Bramall Lane-based outfit found themselves in a similar position earlier on in the campaign last term before fading away, and despite being heavily involved in the automatic promotion race in recent weeks the hub of the focus has still largely been on Leeds and Norwich.

Now Bamford has put the pressure on the Blades and taken some off of the Whites as result, and now we must wait and see until the end of the month to see how they deal with it.

Mark Lawrenson suggests Kane return led to Tottenham slipping up vs Burnley

[ad_pod ]

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has made a surprise claim about Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Burnley on Saturday in his latest set of Premier League predictions ahead of the midweek fixtures.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Spurs’ title chances suffered a massive and perhaps fatal hit as they were beaten 2-1 by the Clarets at the weekend, and they will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Lawrenson believes that the encounter between the two London clubs will end in a 1-1 draw, and suggests that the return of Harry Kane from injury at Turf Moor actually hindered Spurs.

The 61-year-old said: “I had predicted a draw, knowing that Harry Kane was coming back. Part of my thinking was that, when a team’s best player is out, you get a little bit extra from all the other players. When he returns, they relax a tiny bit.”

Is he right?

Perhaps a little bit, yes.

There’s good news for fans of City, Liverpool, Spurs and United in the video below…

There will of course be an expectation when Kane is on the pitch that he can find the net because of his record, and that could easily lead to his teammates becoming a little more complacent, as Lawrenson alludes to.

However, you wouldn’t expect that to be the case with experienced players like Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min when you are in a title race, and it shouldn’t be used as an excuse.

Those individuals know that they must produce the displays they did in Kane’s absence from here on in if the north London outfit are to have any chance of keeping the pressure up on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Celtic fans react after Scott Sinclair hits a hat-trick against St Johnstone

[ad_pod ]

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after Scott Sinclair bagged a hat-trick against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup to send the Bhoys into the quarter-finals.

The former Manchester City forward displayed ice-cool composure in front of goal to bag a treble, with James Forrest and an unlikely scorer in Scott Brown – whose wonder goal was his first in two years – rounding off a dominant victory.

Sinclair’s hat-trick helped Brendan Rodgers’ men to what was their 24th consecutive domestic cup win as they aim to complete another treble, and signals a remarkable turnaround in form after being slated by Celtic fans earlier in the season.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

The former Swansea star has now hit 16 goals across all competitions so far this season, displaying an unerring composure to his finishing which is to be vital if Celtic are to beat Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title.

Fans of the Scottish giants on Twitter were in awe at Brown’s screamer, but also took time to commend Sinclair on his match-winning performance and potency in front of goal…

Phil Hay gives insight into the Leeds squad’s attitude after going 11 points clear

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Being a Leeds United fan must be horrible sometimes.

The Whites have had to endure almost 16 years of misery as they’ve failed to return to the top flight since their relegation in 2004, despite looking like they’re on track so many times.

This year there seems to be a sort of cautious pessimism around the club’s promotion chances, and it seems as if that has carried over to the players.

What’s been said then?

In the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show (13/12/19), the journalist relayed a conversation he had with Liam Cooper after Marcelo Bielsa’s press conference on Thursday.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

“I’ve got a long piece with Liam Cooper coming up after Christmas, and I had a chat with him after the press conference today.” Hay said (5:20).

“He said ‘because we ballsed it up last season, it’s actually quite easy to go home and not think that we’ve got 11 points now and it’s pretty much in the can’”

“They all know from experience that it can all go wrong spectacularly, and they all do feel a long way out from the end of the season.”

Good or bad?

There are two ways to look at this depending on whether or not you’re an optimist or a pessimist.

One way to look at it is that it’s not good to see that some Leeds players are still troubled by the demons of last season and that they don’t believe in themselves to get the job done this time around.

However, you could also see it as the players staying on their toes and not becoming overconfident that the job is already done. If that is the case, it’s a refreshing sense of perspective from Bielsa’s players.

Whichever way you want to see it, it’s certainly interesting to get this type of insight into the dressing room.

Meanwhile, our writers have been questioning whether or not one of Leeds’ January targets would be a good signing.
