-Não vou confirmar o time porque temos alguns problemas.

Ian Poveda suffers serious leg injury

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a serious leg injury.

The Lowdown: Poveda on loan at Blackburn

The 21-year-old was sent out on loan to the Championship club during the summer in order to enjoy more regular football, but it has not quite gone to plan.

Poveda, who has been described as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola after his spell at Manchester City, has been limited to just four league starts so far at Ewood Park.

On Saturday, the youngster unfortunately left the field injured in his side’s 1-1 draw away to Bristol City with what looked like a serious issue.

The Latest: Serious injury confirmed

On Tuesday, Blackburn’s official Twitter channel confirmed the news using quotes from Mowbray, who said that the midfielder looks set for a lengthy spell out of the team. The Rovers boss outlined: “The news isn’t particularly good, he’s broken his fibula and has some ligament damage.”

As per Blackburn’s official website, Mowbray added: “It’s a fracture and it’s not good news for him or us. We’ve been in touch with Leeds United and it looks as if he’ll have an operation to insert a plate. We’ll see what Leeds want to do because he’s their player, but he will be out for a significant period of time.”

The Verdict: Big blow for Poveda

It is a cruel blow for Poveda, especially as he tries to force his way into Mowbray’s starting line-up more regularly, and he now faces a mental challenge to overcome following such a huge personal setback.

The hope is that the Leeds youngster can make a swift enough recovery to get some more game-time at Blackburn before the season is out, ideally returning to Elland Road more rounded player next summer.

At 21, he still has a long future ahead of him, so this will hopefully be a minor speed bump in his career rather than a prolonged setback like the one suffered by Adam Forshaw.

Elliott keen to do more with the ball

Grant Elliott has expressed his keenness to make a bigger contribution with the ball in the second Test against Pakistan in Wellington

Cricinfo staff30-Nov-2009New Zealand allrounder Grant Elliott has expressed his keenness to make a bigger contribution with the ball in the second Test against Pakistan in Wellington. Elliott bowled just two overs in New Zealand’s 32-run win in Dunedin due to his knee injury, leaving Shane Bond, Daniel Vettori, Iain O’Brien and Chris Martin with an additional responsibility to fill in for the fifth bowler.Vettori had admitted the extent of the workload the four bowlers had to bear, in having to bowl out Pakistan twice, was huge. New Zealand can expect the physical demands of winning the next Test to be greater, especially as their bowlers are recovering from injuries. Bond is missing the big toe-nail on his left foot, Vettori is nursing an injured shoulder and O’Brien is awaiting scans on his dislocated finger.”It definitely hurts me not being able to do that (bowl) because you saw how hard the bowlers toiled,” Elliot told . “It’s tendonitis. I’ve just been battling with that a bit. I had it in Wellington but hopefully I can take a load off the bowlers. It’s about (bowling) loads and how the inflammation is at the time. It has good days and bad days.”Eliott has managed just two wickets at an average of 66 in Tests but has bowled more often, and has had more success, in the ODI format, taking 17 wickets at 22.11. While establishing himself as a solid middle-order batsman in limited-overs cricket, Elliott is still fighting for a long-term slot in Tests. “It’s runs and wickets at the end of the day,” he said. “For me, every Test innings I play I’m looking to establish my position and stamp my authority on the game. Hopefully it will be in this Test.”The second Test begins on December 3.

Struijk a beast in Leeds’ win over Norwich

Leeds United piled more misery onto Norwich City to move out of the Premier League relegation zone on Sunday afternoon.

After a lacklustre first half, the game fired into life when tricky winger Raphinha fired the visitors in front at Carrow Road with a sublime solo effort. He weaved past three Canaries players before slotting the ball home past Tim Krul.

Norwich hit back within two minutes after Andrew Omobamidele headed home from a needless corner before the Whites managed to wrap things up with another touch of class, this time Rodrigo firing in from range.

The home side remain winless on two points at the foot of the table, whilst the Yorkshire giants leapfrogged Burnley to move into 17th place. And Marcelo Bielsa has his Brazilian winger largely to thank as he clinched the ‘Man of the Match’ award down in Norfolk.

However, he wasn’t the only key player on the day after Pascal Struijk put in a monstrous display in their three-man backline.

Only two other players recorded a better rating than the Dutch colossus (7.2), one of which being the goalscorer, Raphinha, and that goes to show that the defender was rather influential indeed.

Daniel Farke’s side recorded more shots (14) than Leeds (13) and even had five more corners, so they enjoyed their fair share of chances and thanks to Struijk, they remained solid at the back.

Even more importantly, he played a major role in both of their goals scored, particularly the first after he drove the ball out from defence before playing a perfect ball into Dan James’ feet, who then fed Raphinha out wide.

“Struijk instrumental in the build-up to both goals,” described BBC journalist Adam Pope at full-time.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old recorded a joint-high five tackles, on top of one block and one tackle, whilst he also won 100% of his seven duels contended, both in the air and on the ground, as per SofaScore.

On that evidence, the Canaries really found it hard to get past the 6 foot 3 titan throughout the 90 minutes.

The £18m-rated beast arguably stole the show at Carrow Road as he not only looked resolute in his defensive duties but he also looked to create things and start attacks, and ultimately, that led to both Raphinha and Rodrigo scoring.

We will show more consistency – Mortaza

The Bangladesh captain said the team had been playing good cricket in the past seven to eight months

Cricinfo staff24-Jul-2009

“We did something which never happened to Bangladesh cricket.”•Bangladesh Cricket Board

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has said his side’s Test series win in the West Indies will lead to more consistency in their performance. The team, he said, had been knocking on the doors of a big win for some time and were confident it was round the corner.Mortaza was speaking on his return to Bangladesh, his tour cut short by a knee injury that ruled him out of the second Test and the ODI series.”We did something which never happened to Bangladesh cricket,” he said. “I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I was not playing for the most part. Our cricket can only go forward from here. We are not going to win every game from now on but I believe you will see more consistency because the boys have confidence and belief in their abilities.”He said the team put the loss to Ireland in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup behind them. “We have been playing good cricket for seven-eight months. We pushed teams like New Zealand and Sri Lanka really close and the players were confident that a result was just around the corner. One Twenty20 loss to Ireland doesn’t wipe out the good cricket we played before that.”Bangladesh’s win came against a severely weakened West Indies side, the hosts ravaged by an internal contracts dispute, but Mortaza wasn’t about to let it take the gloss off the result. “We had planned for Gayle and the rest but then their line-up changed. We couldn’t do anything about that and decided to stick to the same plan against players we didn’t know much about. We executed our plan really well and it worked.”Mortaza praised the effort of the top-order batsmen in the series, an area of worry for Bangladesh recently. “That had been one of our areas of concern in the past but Tamim (Iqbal) was excellent in the opening slot. Imrul (Kayes), Zunaed and some others may not have made big runs to show but balanced that by staying at the crease for long periods. Spending time at the wicket is decisive in Test cricket.”Mortaza was unsure about the details of his injury, and said he would travel to Australia to receive treatment. “I’m still not sure about the extent of the damage. I’ve heard that there could be a bit of internal bleeding probably. I will have to travel abroad and get it checked and we’ll see whether a surgery is required or not. But I’m confident that I would return to cricket pretty soon.”Fast bowler Shahadat Hossain, who also returned to Bangladesh after being omitted from the ODI team, admitted it was not a memorable Test series for him. “I am disappointed with my bowling. We played on wickets where you had to bowl long spells to get wickets. I didn’t do that and that’s probably the reason why I wasn’t successful. The pitches are slow in the Caribbean and we have Shakib who is super and then (Abdur) Razzak, Riyad (Mahmud Ullah) and Naeem (Islam). I expect the spinners to do well in the ODIs.”Newcomer Sahgir Hossain did not get to play in any of the Tests, but was happy to be part of the winning national team. “Obviously I would have been happier if I had played but the feeling of winning a Test series on my first trip with the National team is still a most memorable experience,” he said.

Ismael must unleash Caleb Taylor

When Valerien Ismael took over as the new West Bromwich Albion manager this summer, the Frenchman arrived with a reputation of playing a direct and attacking brand of football, as well as being a coach who is more than willing to fast-track a club’s most promising youth players into his first-team squad.

However, so far this season, the youngest player to have featured for West Brom in the Championship is 20-year-old Rayhaan Tulloch, with the centre-forward coming on with just one minute remaining in the Baggies’ 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers back in August.

Indeed, while the likes of Caleb Taylor, Ethan Ingram, Tom Fellows and Taylor Gardner-Hickman have all made an appearance in the 46-year-old manager’s matchday squads, none of the teenagers have been awarded any game time in the league as yet.

This is a subject that Ismael addressed in a recent interview with the Express & Star, with the Frenchman stating his belief that the time has to be right for the youngsters to make the breakthrough into first-team football.

He said: “They’re always close to being involved. You see the results with the U23s since I came here. From the first day they’ve changed their way, they play the same system and they’ve won a lot of games with brilliant performances. Southampton 6-0, Norwich 5-2.

“It shows you already that everything is going in in the right direction – with the first team and the 23s. The main reason now is that a lot of the young players train with us, and they follow our principles. When they play with the 23s, it’s good to see those principles.

“We know that in some positions, if we need to, we can give chances to the younger lads. But they need to wait until the right time, and when it comes I’m sure we’ll have joy with the young players.”

Indeed, while it may be understandable that Ismael has not opted to field some of his younger talents ahead of established first-team regulars while his side are fighting for promotion towards the top of the Championship table, injuries to centre-back duo Matt Clarke and Dara O’Shea earlier this season presented the 46-year-old with the perfect opportunity to afford one of the club’s most promising academy products, Caleb Taylor, with some first-team minutes.

However, rather than doing so, Ismael instead opted to field firstly Cedric Kipre in his back three, before moving left-back Conor Townend into a central defensive position, all while Taylor sat watching on from the bench.

And, should the manager indeed wish to develop the 18-year-old centre-back who Peter Gilbert dubbed a “vocal” player as efficiently as possible, it would seem highly advisable for the Frenchman to unleash the youngster sooner rather than later, or else he may begin to feel somewhat left behind by the West Brom manager.

Indeed, with Albion’s own website describing Taylor as a “colossus at the heart of defence”, it would certainly appear as if the general consensus about the 18-year-old is that the he possesses the potential to save the club millions of pounds in transfer fees over the coming years, all he needs is an opportunity to make his mark.

Spurs open to Dele Alli exit

Tottenham Hotspur are open to out-of-form midfielder Dele Alli departing the club during the upcoming January transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to The Athletic, Spurs would be willing to accept an appropriate offer for the 25-year-old’s services over the winter after falling down the pecking order in north London.

The report states that: “The Athletic understands that Spurs would be more open to allowing the player to move on. Certainly, for the moment he doesn’t appear to be in Nuno’s plans.”

Spurs fans will be buzzing

It seemed as though Dele was going to conquer the world in the early stages of his career.

The former England international scored 46 goals and provided a further 41 assists in 146 appearances for Spurs between 2015/16 and 2017/18, cementing his status as one of the most exciting prospects in European football.

However, he’s failed to replicate that sort of form since playing his part in England reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

A mini-renaissance under former manager Jose Mourinho saw Dele bag four goals in his first four games under the Portuguese coach, leading to hope that the creative talent was set to return to his best.

“(Alli’s) too good to not be one of the best players in the world and not playing with the national team,” said Mourinho after a steller Dele performance against West Ham United back in 2019.

“I’m happy with him, I spent a few minutes with him in training and outside the pitch. And we were saying that the best Dele Alli has to be back.”

Unfortunately, though, it proved to be a false dawn. The engine room operator tailed off after his fast start under Mourinho and endured one of the worst campaigns of his career last term.

Dele started just seven Premier League games throughout 2020/21 and ended up with a meagre eight goal contributions from his 29 outings, indicating just how far he’s fallen in recent years.

And now, under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo, he’s been reduced to a fringe player only called upon for UEFA Conference League duty after his initial spell in central midfielder proved unsuccessful.

The reasons behind Dele’s dramatic decline remain shrouded in mystery, but a large section of the Tottenham supporters will surely be buzzing that closure over the whole sorry ordeal appears to be just around the corner.

In reaction to this report, it certainly appears to be the case – as relayed by This is Futbol, many fans were delighted by the news with the word “finally” prominent amongst much of the reaction.

That only goes to show that a large majority around N17 are excited by this claim.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Alexandre Lacazette links

Crystal Palace and West Ham have been linked with a possible swoop for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to 90min.

And, as to be expected, a number of Eagles fans have been giving their thoughts to the rumours on social media.

90min shared a story on Thursday, providing an update on Lacazette’s future at the Emirates Stadium.

They suggest that the French forward, who turned 30 in May, is likely to leave the club in the coming months.

He could sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in the New Year when he is into the final six months of his contract, however, remaining in London is also a possibility.

The report suggests that the Eagles and the Hammers are possible destinations for Lacazette, who is open to remaining in the capital.
