Estamos montando agora a equipe.

Celtic: Fans slate Tony Cascarino following throwback tweet

A lot of Celtic fans were talking about Tony Cascarino following a tweet from Hoops fan St.Anthony slating the player’s career at the club.

Cascarino was signed for £1.1m from Aston Villa in July 1991, as per thecelticwiki, but really failed to make an impression as the striker only managed to score four goals in 18 games, and for such a huge price tag in that era, his signing seemed a real letdown.

He failed to win any silverware either and it just looked to be a complete failure which sadly didn’t work out. Some might wonder why they paid such a fee for a player who had only scored 12 goals in 50 games for Aston Villa, as per thecelticwiki.

He has been a frequent critic of the Hoops now that he is retired and he did so with such regularity that the Daily Record compiled a list of ill-judged criticisms from the ex-Republic of Ireland striker.

It is quite ironic to see the former player slate a league in which he struggled and, judging by the fan replies below, it seems that there is no love lost between him and the Celtic faithful.

Here is what these Hoops fans had to say following the tweet:

Crystal Palace: Tammy Abraham vs Gary Cahill will be a decisive battle this Saturday

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Crystal Palace travel from south to west this Saturday to take on a Chelsea side who are absolutely flying going into this London derby affair.

Frank Lampard’s men are on a five-game winning streak in the Premier League, and have won eight of their last ten games in all competitions – the Blues’ last outing saw them come back from 4-1 down to record a 4-4 draw against Ajax at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are impressing in midfield, as is Fikayo Tomori at the back, although there is one man who is quite simply playing out of his skin at the moment.

Who is it?

Tammy Abraham.

The Chelsea academy graduate has had to be patient over the years as he waits for a chance at Stamford Bridge, scoring 23 Championship goals for Bristol City in 2016/17 and 26 league goals for Aston Villa last term, as he waited for his big break.

Having now been handed the No.9 shirt by Lampard and also the chance to shine in the first-team, the 22-year-old hasn’t looked back with a stunning nine goals in 11 Premier League appearances – Abraham is just one goal behind top-scorer Jamie Vardy.

Abraham – dubbed as a “brave” forward by Garth Crooks recently – has also netted in this season’s Champions League.

“Abraham clearly has ability, but he is also brave and not afraid to go in where it hurts. A crucial quality for any striker.”

Gary Cahill must be wary of Abraham

Another man who has had a fine start to the campaign is Crystal Palace’s Gary Cahill.

Signed on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea in the summer, the England international will be making his first appearance back at Stamford Bridge, and he has a job on his hands to contain the in-form striker.

Since becoming a Palace player, Cahill has won the club’s Player of the Month award for September while delivering some brilliant performances, although one thing that could be deemed as a blot on his copybook is his lack of pace.

Position-wise, and in terms of his leadership, the former Bolton man is exceptional, although if it comes down to a footrace between him and Abraham this weekend, Cahill will be in all sorts of bother.

As a result, what the centre-back – pinpointed as the “ultimate professional” by Asmir Begovic – mustn’t do is get too tight to Chelsea’s No.9.

“He’s the ultimate professional who controls his emotions very well. He was reliable and he had a good presence in the dressing room.”

As strange as it sounds, Cahill must allow Abraham space, rather than get touch-tight to the youngster who could then spin off the defender and leave him for dead.

In giving Abraham a few yards, Cahill would allow himself time to get a tackle in or simply assess the situation better, rather than getting sucked in where a simple give-and-go from Abraham would completely take him out of the game.

Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi puts in a masterclass against Arsenal

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Going into Leicester City’s Premier League clash with Arsenal, most of the talk surrounding the midfield area was centred around Granit Xhaka, after it was confirmed he wouldn’t play.

However, Wilfred Ndidi, who is rated at £31.5m on Transfermarkt, ensured that it was he who would be getting plenty of attention upon the game’s culmination, as he put in a complete masterclass, playing a central role in Brendan Rodgers’ side overcoming the Gunners in more ways than one.

Defensively, the Nigeria international was solid, completing 7 tackles, the highest number of anyone in the game, while also making 2 clearances and 3 interceptions, as well as coming out on top in 3 aerial duels.

What is so impressive about Ndidi is that he doesn’t just win the ball back, but looks to do something as soon as he has retrieved it.

This is what led to Leicester’s second of the game. He got in ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to regain possession, took Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira out of the game with a few touches, before passing to Ricardo Pereira, starting the move that ended with James Maddison’s strike.

Ndidi’s comfort on the ball can also be seen through his statistics, as the 22-year-old completed all 3 of his dribbles, played 1 key pass and maintained a pass success rate of 90%.

It is telling that he was able to make such an impact despite having just 3% of the game’s overall possession, the lowest number of any starting central midfielder on the pitch.

The Nigerian even got close to scoring a goal, though he eventually saw his effort from inside the box cannon off the crossbar.

There was plenty of appreciation for his performance, as Jordan Blackwell of The Leicester Mercury gave him a rating of 8, adding: “Dominated the midfield by himself once again, making tackles galore to ensure that Arsenal’s only route to goal was down the flanks.”

Ndidi gave a complete masterclass that will have likely left Arsenal envious of Leicester, considering their issues in the midfield area.

Liverpool fans fumed at Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita’s starting XI omissions

Some Liverpool fans took to Twitter in fury after Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were both omitted from the starting XI against Tottenham on Sunday. Both men lit up the midweek Champions League win over Genk on Wednesday, with Oxlade-Chamberlain in particular impressing after scoring two goals in the 4-1 victory – the England international was named as the WhoScored Man of the Match for his efforts in Belgium.

In Keita’s case, the Guinea international was also in fine form, having more touches of the ball than anyone else on the pitch with 140 while also completing three dribbles and recording three tackles.

However, despite their impressive performances, Jurgen Klopp opted to go with his trusty midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum for the visit of Spurs – something that did not go down too well with some Liverpool fans on Twitter.

Let’s take a look at what they were saying prior to kick-off…

Will Grigg being given a new lease of life could kickstart his Sunderland career

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Will Grigg’s move to Sunderland has fallen short of expectations so far but his display against Tranmere on Tuesday shows he has the potential to be a real success this season.

The Northern Ireland international scored his first league goal of the season in the 5-0 rout but his all-round display hinted that a change in manager could see a different striker donning the red and white stripes from now on.

Phil Parkinson’s first home game in charge coincided with a change in approach from the Black Cats, moving away from a negative style of play which saw them draw 19 matches last term and find the back of the net just 16 times in 11 league games this campaign.

The new lease of life led to more chances being created and it was no surprise that Grigg was able to profit, and now both his manager and the fans will hope he can keep it up, since the striker has previously drawn criticism for his performances.

However, he showed that could all be behind him now there is a new dawn at the Stadium of Light, adding quality to the tireless effort he showed throughout.

That commitment contributed to Grigg completing two tackles, allowing the Black Cats to pen in Rovers and apply pressure on their defence which made victory an inevitability, evidenced by their 16 shots.

According to SofaScore he also made four key passes, an aspect of his game which makes up for his lack of goals since arriving in January – with seven in 36 Sunderland appearances.

With such a record it is fair to say he has been a flop so far, particularly as he arrived for £4m – an eyewatering sum which makes him the most expensive League One signing ever.

Nevertheless, he still has a lot to offer and could be key to promotion success this year. He already had four of those under his belt from spells at Wigan, MK Dons and Brentford, and now he has a manager willing to be more adventurous and daring in attack, he could really flourish.

He finished as the top scorer in League One in 2015/16 too which shows he has the quality to be devastating at this level, suggesting it was perhaps a fault of Jack Ross that he failed to deliver.

Man Utd flop Fred "becoming a joke" according to Martin Keown

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Martn Keown has slammed Manchester United midfielder Fred for his performance against Newcastle.

What did he say?

The Brazil international delivered another underwhelming display against the Magpies, winning just two duels over the course of the 90 minutes, and losing possession 13 times.

Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…

After seeing the 26-year-old’s lacklustre performance, Keown ripped into the midfielder’s ability on the ball. He said (as quoted by The Daily Mirror): “They’re so inept in possession. Fred, it’s almost becoming a joke when he gets the ball. I know it’s good closing down but you’ve got to be able to control it and pass. If that’s the central midfield then there’s not going to be anything created.”

Money poorly spent

To think this is the same man who was supposed to be of interest to Manchester City. Fred’s alarming decline since moving from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018 has perfectly encapsulated the problems at Old Trafford. A lot of money spent, but nothing of note to show for it.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Against Newcastle on Sunday, the Brazilian did very little to help the side’s attack, contributing zero key passes, whilst he was equally ineffective off-the-ball too, making just the one tackle. Just how long do the Red Devils give before they cut their losses on their £47m signing?

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to truly clean up the mess he was left with, under-performing players like Fred simply have to be shipped out.

Who ‘won’ the transfer window? Assessing London’s Premier League squads

The Premier League is back, and the 2019/20 season is set to be the best one yet after a fascinating transfer window. But which London club do you think fared best when it comes to summer business? Who’s your bet on to finish top of the pile in London this year? Let’s take a look at the comings and goings from the five clubs based in the capital ready for this brand new season.

Arsenal

It was a surprise to everyone given Arsenal’s transfer window history, but the Gunners had a successful – even exciting – summer. Not only did Unai Emery bring in dynamic attacking options, but after a long time of fans calling for it, fresh legs have been added in the defence.

A big bonus of this window for Arsenal is that Kieran Tierney and Nicolas Pépé are 22 and 24 respectively and therefore both at the perfect age to build for the future. While new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was happy to sell David Luiz as he wasn’t going to factor in his starting 11, Emery has worked with Luiz before at PSG.

Main signings:

Nicolas Pépé – Lille, £72m William Saliba – St‑Étienne, £27m Kieran Tierney – Celtic, £25m David Luiz – Chelsea, £8m Gabriel Martinelli – Ituano, £6m Dani Ceballos – Real Madrid, loan Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs did some late business by bringing in Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso on the summer deadline day. However, fans are still showing some concern for the defensive strength of the squad. This season will definitely be about aiming for trophies after a third-place finish in the league and reaching the Champions League final.

Main signings:

Tanguy Ndombele – Lyon, £55.5m Jack Clarke – Leeds, £10m Giovani Lo Celso – Real Betis, loan Ryan Sessegnon – Fulham, £25m. Crystal Palace

After a 16th place finish in the league for the 2018/19 campaign, Palace and Roy Hodgson will be aiming for much more from this season. The main challenge for Hodgson, however, will be utilising Wilfried Zaha and reintroducing him to the squad after making his desire to leave quite plain. Palace have made some strong signings to bolster the squad, and bringing in Gary Cahill for free from Chelsea is a great move. The central defender still has a lot to offer and will be an asset.

Main signings:

Jordan Ayew – Swansea, £3m James McCarthy – Everton, £3m Gary Cahill – Chelsea, free Victor Camarasa – Real Betis, loan Stephen Henderson, free. Chelsea

Frank Lampard is going to have a bit of a challenge on his hands thanks to Chelsea’s transfer ban. However, owing to a loophole in that two-window transfer suspension (it’s a registration ban technically), the Blues managed to sign both Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic. Most of their summer business came from outgoing players for sale, on loan and released. The most high-profile of those being Eden Hazard to Real Madrid for £88.5m – it’s just a shame they can’t spend the money from that big sale for a while.

Main signings:

Mateo Kovacic – Real Madrid, £40.2m Christian Pulisic – Borussia Dortmund, £58m West Ham

The Hammers are another club where the defence seems to be the main concern. The Hammers have done good business in the summer, though, with a lot of outgoing players and they also broke their transfer record. Sébastien Haller and Albian Ajeti are both young, exciting and dynamic strikers – Manuel Pellegrini will hope they both light up the London Stadium and paper over the cracks of their defensive worries.

Main signings:

Sébastien Haller – Eintracht Frankfurt £40.7m Pablo Fornals – Villarreal, £24m Albian Ajeti – Basel, £8m Gonçalo Cardoso – Boavista, undiscl So, who won the window?

It’s hard to look past Arsenal’s summer business, mainly because we’re used to seeing no transfer window activity at the Emirates – but this feels like a new era. Spurs have also done some top quality business and Chelsea did the best they could considering their ban. But it will certainly be interesting to see what the Gunners can do after injecting some additional talent into their squad this season.

Tottenham took an "absolute battering" from Manchester City, says Paul Merson

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Writing in his weekly Sky Sports column, Paul Merson has claimed Tottenham took an “absolute battering” at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday.

What did he say?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side rode their luck at the Etihad to earn a 2-2 draw with the Premier League champions, and managed to avoid a late defeat thanks to an intervention from VAR.

The post-match stats revealed how the north Londoners faced thirty shots on goal from the home side, whilst they only managed three of their own. Now, Merson has insisted Spurs could not have had any complaints had they suffered a heavy loss.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “Let’s be honest, it is not like Spurs went there and ripped Man City apart! It was an absolute battering! If I were Tottenham, they just got over the line against Villa and let’s be honest, they got rinsed on Saturday. And if that had ended up six or seven, Tottenham would not have complained, they could not have moaned.”

A point is a point

Pep Guardiola’s side may have thrown the kitchen sink at Spurs over the course of the 90 minutes on Saturday, but in the end, the score-line read 2-2. For all of City’s dominance, they left the game with just a single point to their name.

There may be occasions over the course of the season where Spurs’ fortune at the Etihad slips away, but come the end of the season, taking a point from the home of the champions could be a major advantage for the north London side.

Nobody looks back and talks about how they were “battered” or “rinsed”. What matters is the end result, and Spurs will rightly head into the next couple of weeks with a spring in their step.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

Indeed, a draw at the Etihad arguably takes some of the pressure away from having to secure a big result against Arsenal on September 1. Another point at the Emirates would make that a pair of unbeaten games away from home against two of last season’s top six, and firmly set Spurs up for the rest of the campaign.
