According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United and GSB have made contact over potentially signing Dinamo Zagreb forward Mislav Orsic in the summer – with plenty of Irons erupting as this ‘mad’ news emerges.

Orsic, who has bagged an impressive 19 goals in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt), is also attracting interest from Arsenal as FI claim that West Ham could enter a transfer battle over the player.

An Irons source told the outlet that GSB have already made an enquiry for the 28-year-old, coming after he dismantled Tottenham Hotspur in a memorable Europa League tie.

Indeed, the 28-year-old bagged a hat-trick to knock Jose Mourinho’s men out of Europe – with supporters now wowed as links emerge to his possible signing.

One Hammers fan even called the story ‘mad’, and given their interest has only recently came to light following his noteworthy Europa League outing, it could be considered a surprising development.

Leeds have been handed an injury setback ahead of the Premier League clash against Southampton tonight, with Marcelo Bielsa confirming that Kalvin Phillips will once again be missing from action.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against the Saints, Bielsa said: “He’s not available for tomorrow’s game. Rodrigo also. But Llorente is back. Berardi is evolving, the same as Poveda. Forshaw is in a process which is a lot slower.”

He added: “I’ve been saying it since the day they’ve been injured, but I’ll say it again. Rodrigo slipped in the game against Leicester and his legs separated a big width apart and he has a small problem in the inside of his groin. Kalvin has a muscular problem in his calf.”

Given that Bielsa spoke ahead of the Arsenal game that his midfield talisman was almost touch-and-go to play against the Gunners, he may have been expecting to have the England international back for tonight’s game, but it seems that the problem with Phillips is a little more serious than first thought.

Of course, with it being a muscle injury, the Leeds boss is being understandably cautious, no doubt on the recommendation of the club’s medical staff.

And with still plenty of games to go in the Premier League, simply rushing him back only for him to break down again and be out for even longer, would be bordering on negligence on the part of Bielsa.

But that is no assurance to the Argentine, who will once again be without one of his key players when Southampton make the trip to Elland Road tonight.

The Whites have lost the last three Premier League games that Phillips has missed, while Darren Bent has previously spoken about the kind of importance of the England international.

He said: “It is a unique role, and you think who else can they get in that position who can do the job effectively. The answer to that is no one. He’s that good of a player that it’s hard to replace him.”

Phillips – valued at £17.5m by CIES – has been an ever-present under Bielsa, playing 105 games for the manager, and developing into a full England international under his guidance.

Make no mistake about it, given Leeds’ results with Phillips being out, and just how important he is, the whole situation is surely a major concern to Bielsa. The Whites boss will be incredibly worried about how long he’ll be without his midfield maestro.

What’s the word?

The Daily Mirror (05/01, page 47) claim the 24-year-old winger, who has featured just once in the Premier League this term, is a target for Sam Allardyce amongst others.

Top-flight rivals Leeds United are thought to be leading the race with Southampton and Sheffield United also mentioned in the report.

It is thought that the Foxes ace feels he has no long-term future at the club as he enters the final six months of his current contract, which also means he’s free to join any foreign outfit with Ligue 1 side Marseille also linked.

Worse than Phillips

Albion are on the verge of securing Robert Snodgrass on a free transfer from West Ham, so a move for Gray doesn’t seem worthwhile.

He has failed to live up to expectations at the King Power Stadium, indeed it is a surprise to see that the wide man has made 133 appearances in the Premier League since Leicester activated his £3.7m release clause in January 2016.

In those matches, Gray has only been able to muster up ten goals and 11 assists, and evidently, current Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is no longer a fan considering he’s played 459 minutes all season.

A stark contrast to September 2019 when Rodgers lauded the winger a “big talent”  and June 2020, emphasising this point, calling him a “wonderful talent” who “can do everything” even claiming he had been “exceptional” – though his lack of action on the pitch clearly tells another story.

Last season in the top-flight, Gray failed to average over 1.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Which is far worse than what Matty Phillips conjured up despite being in and out of the side on the Baggies’ way to promotion.

Even though the former QPR man has been found out at this level, managing just 0.5 shots and 0.4 dribbles per game, the last thing Big Sam will want is another disastrous winger on his hands.

The Baggies must steer clear of the £55k-per-week flop this transfer window.

رد مايكل أرتيتا مدرب فريق آرسنال على المطالبات بالاستغناء عن خدمات القائد بيير إيميريك أوباميانج في موسم الانتقالات الشتوي المقبل، في ظل تراجع مستواه.

بدا اللاعب البالغ من العمر 32 عامًا في طريقه لإعادة اكتشاف أفضل مستوى له في وقت سابق من هذا الموسم، وتلقى الإشادة من النجم السابق جاري نيفيل بعد فوز آرسنال 3-0 على أستون فيلا في أكتوبر.

وخاض أوباميانج ست مباريات بدون تسجيل هدف منذ ذلك الانتصار وتواجد على مقاعد البدلاء يوم الإثنين حيث خسر آرسنال للمرة الثالثة في أربع مباريات ضد إيفرتون.

بعد المباراة، صرح نيفيل أن مستوى أوباميانج سيمثل مصدر قلق متزايد لأرتيتا لكن الإسباني أصر على عدم وجود مشاكل بين الثنائي.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان هناك تخطيط للتخلي عن أوباميانج، رد أرتيتا في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية: “لم نناقش شيئًا كهذا أبدًا، عندما يكون اللاعبون في وضع صعب، يجب أن نقدم لهم دعمنا”.

وأضاف: “من الواضح عندما لا يسجل اللاعب، فإن ذلك يؤثر على ثقته بنفسه، إنه يؤثر على الحالة المزاجية وربما الإيمان، ولكن عليك التمرد على هذا الموقف، ولا تقبله وتشعر بالأسف على نفسك”.

واختتم: “كل لاعب لديه مثل تلك اللحظات، يتعلق الأمر بمحاولة تصحيح الموقف والمحافظة على اللحظات الجيدة والمستوى الجيد عندما يسجل فيها اللاعب، وتقليص الوقت السيء الآخر”.
