INEOS exploring blockbuster £85m deal to sign Mbappe-level star for Man Utd

With a deal advancing to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United and INEOS have now reportedly made contact with a Paris Saint-Germain superstar over a potential summer move.

What INEOS have planned after Mbeumo

With Matheus Cunha already signed and delivered and Mbeumo now awaiting approval to undergo a medical, Manchester United are set to see their attacking problems solved at long last. Moving on from the struggling Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, Ruben Amorim is likely to have two more clinical goalscorers at his disposal next season.

If Mbeumo does sign on the dotted line in the coming weeks then INEOS would have spent in the region of £120m to start a frantic summer at Old Trafford. But after boosting Amorim’s attack, what’s next on their list of priorities?

Top of the list seems to be signing a replacement for Andre Onana. The goalkeeper has struggled ever since becoming United’s No.1, in truth, and could now be replaced by Emiliano Martinez or Diogo Costa among other options.

Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe still has his sights set on signing a midfielder. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are interested in signing Club Brugge star Ardon Jashari to provide Amorim with another key upgrade.

There is also still reportedly space in the budget for another blockbuster deal this summer, with reports suggesting that United could yet hijack Arsenal’s move to sign Real Madrid’s Rodrygo in what would make quite the statement.

Real Madrid's Rodrygo

The Brazilian won’t come cheap at £85m, however, and Arsenal’s interest may force the Red Devils to turn towards Champions League holders PSG this summer.

Man Utd make contact with Zaire-Emery

As reported by TeamTalk, Manchester United have now made preliminary contact with Warren Zaire-Emery over a potential move from PSG this summer. The talented 19-year-old would be a sensational acquisition as one of the best young talents that European football has to offer, but there will be question marks over United’s willingness to match his €100m (£85m) price tag.

The subject of high praise, Zaire-Emery was described as “special” by analyst Ben Mattinson, who also claimed that the young midfielder is as talented as Kylian Mbappe was during his time at AS Monaco.

Alisson and I are the only two goalkeepers who accomplished this, now Man Utd want me

He could replace Onana.

Since that praise, the 19-year-old has only reached new levels and played his part in PSG’s Champions League success with 13 appearances. Already a three-time league winner and now a Champions League holder, Zaire-Emery is a player destined for an incredible career. Whether that comes at Old Trafford remains to be seen, however.

A better move than Mbeumo: Wilcox opens talks to sign £40m star for Man Utd

The 2024/25 campaign has been one to forget for Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim needing to have a huge summer to transform their fortunes next season.

His side finished in 15th position in the Premier League, a staggering 24 points off a place in the top five, whilst also losing the Europa League final to divisional rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Such a dismal year is unacceptable given the history of the Red Devils, which could see the manager lose his job in the near future should he spend big and fail to turn the situation around.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

With Matheus Cunha already through the door at Old Trafford, it’s likely that the spending is set to continue, as numerous areas of the pitch are still in desperate need of improvement.

Countless names have already been touted with a move to join the club, but it remains to be seen how many more deals are completed before September 1st.

The latest players to be linked with a move to join United

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney is a star who’s been on the rise in the Championship over recent seasons, with United monitoring the 22-year-old with a view to making a £20m move.

He’s not alone in that aspect, with Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitiké appearing to be the subject of a bid in the coming weeks, as Jason Wilcox and Co look to strengthen the frontline.

However, attention has also been turned to a deal to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, as the shot-stopper looks set to leave Unai Emery’s side, according to Doble Amarilla.

The Red Devils have already initiated contact with the 32-year-old’s representatives over a move to Old Trafford, mainly due to Villa’s need to sell players to comply with the division’s PSR.

It also states that he would like to stay in England should he depart the West Midlands outfit this window, with Amorim looking to improve the situation between the sticks.

Why Martinez would be a better signing than Mbeumo for United

Bryan Mbeumo has been a player hugely touted with a move to join United this summer, even expressing his desire to move to Old Trafford ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Cameroonian international has massively impressed in recent months, registering 20 league goals in his 38 outings – leading to keen interest from teams across England’s top flight.

However, the Red Devils are the only side to present an offer to the Bees, but their £55m bid was swiftly rejected as the London outfit are holding out for a fee in the region of £70m.

He’s already agreed personal terms with Amorim’s side, but no deal can be completed until the hierarchy agree a fee with their fellow Premier League side for his signature.

Despite the pending move for the 25-year-old, a transfer for Martinez would be a better deal, with the Argentine international providing a huge upgrade on current number one Andre Onana, who is undoubtedly the biggest issue in Amorim’s starting XI right now.

AstonVilla's EmilianoMartinezreacts

The 29-year-old was seen as a superb signing at the time, but has registered eight errors leading to goals this campaign, ultimately costing the side in numerous key moments.

Confidence in the Cameroonian international seems to be at an all-time low, which has resulted in interest in landing the Villa shot-stopper this window.

When comparing the pair’s respective figures, the 32-year-old has massively outperformed him in numerous key areas, with any deal solving one of Amorim’s main problems in the first team squad.

Martinez, who’s been labelled “world-class” by journalist Dan Bardell, has conceded fewer goals per 90, whilst also achieving a higher save percentage, handing the side the needed defensive reinforcements.

He’s also completed more of the short and long passes he’s attempted, offering Amorim’s men the chance to play out from the back or even go direct if needed – something which Onana has been unable to in recent times.

The Argentine has further impressed, claiming more crosses per 90 than the former Inter Milan star, with his presence off the line able to relieve any pressure placed on the side in the defensive third.

It’s unclear how much a deal for Emery’s number one would cost this summer, but it’s evident that he would provide a huge upgrade currently at the manager’s disposal.

The foundation to any successful side is a commanding ‘keeper, with a deal for Martinez potentially ending Onana’s stint at the club and handing the club the elite-level talent they’ve lacked in such a department.

Keith Barker's six shows Warwickshire what they've been missing

Former Bears left-armer helps Hampshire establish first-innings lead with ninth five-wicket haul for the club

Hampshire 298 and 88 for 2 (Middleton 58, Gubbins 24*, Mousley 1-0) lead Warwickshire 254 (Bethell 69, Mousley 57, Barker 6-74) by 132 runs Keith Barker reminded Warwickshire’s fans of the skills they lost in 2018 as he bowled Hampshire into control on the second day of their Vitality County Championship match at Edgbaston.Barker’s left-arm swing earned him 14 hauls of five wickets or more as a Warwickshire player. He bagged his ninth for Hampshire with 6 for 74 to give them the upper hand in a gripping contest in the Birmingham sunshineIn reply to 298, Warwickshire were dismissed for 254 by Barker and Kyle Abbott (3 for 64) despite impressive resistance from young batters Jake Bethell and Dan Mousley.A lead of 44 is handy in conditions which have given the seamers some encouragement and Hampshire built on it in the final session to reach 88 for 2 as Fletcha Middleton struck his second half-century of the match. After Warwickshire resumed on 51 for 2, the ground echoed to perhaps the earliest ever cry of ‘get on with it’ when, at 11.01am, a long delay ensued while the ball was inspected and then changed. Barker wielded the replacement to spectacular effect with a burst of 3 for 17 in 25 balls. He trapped Danny Briggs lbw, had Sam Hain superbly caught by Ben Brown, standing up, and hit Ed Barnard’s off-stump.From 83 for 5, Mousley and Bethell applied themselves diligently. Destructive batters in the Blast (Bethell smashed 50 from 15 balls last week – this time he scored just two from his first 15), they showed they also have the technique to dig in against good bowling. They added 74 in 22 overs before Mousley was lured into driving away from his body at Barker and edged behind.Michael Burgess joined Bethell to add 64 in 21 overs before Barker returned to strike twice more. Bethell edged a big drive to first slip where James Vince accepted that catch and another two overs later when Chris Woakes edged a footwork-free waft.Craig Miles smote three quick fours but then played down the wrong line to Abbott. Mohammad Abbas finally collected a deserved wicket when Burgess chopped on.With the evening session to enlarge their lead, Hampshire began badly when Toby Albert edged Olly Hannon-Dalby’s second ball to slip, but then advanced meticulously. Middleton continued his good form from the first innings to reach a 60-ball half-century and Nick Gubbins (24 not out in over two hours) unfurled an innings of low entertainment for the spectators but high value to his team as the advantage ticked upwards.Middleton edged Mousley behind 14 balls before the close and though Hampshire are well on top, Warwickshire are very much still in the game. This intriguing match may have a fascinating second half in wait for those spectators, particularly those who are connoisseurs of threes. With a very long boundary on the Pershore Road side of the ground, this has been a veritable festival of threes – there have been 15 already.

Tonali 2.0: Newcastle keen to finalise move quickly for £40m "top talent"

Newcastle United look set to wrap up a move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

Despite their first bid being rejected, Eddie Howe upped the offer to £55m and this looks like it could be enough to seal a deal for the Swedish star.

Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga

It would be a strong signing indeed, one that could prove to be the catalyst for Howe to bring on more new arrivals over the next few weeks.

One area that needs to be sorted is the defence. With Champions League football on the agenda next term, building as strong a squad as possible is the onus now for Howe.

Could he be keen to wrap up a deal for a Serie A talent sooner rather than later?

Newcastle’s search for a defender

AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw has been linked with a move, while Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande is also of interest to the Magpies, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Howe won’t be able to sign them all, of course, but it appears as though he is keen on sealing a deal for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini in the coming days.

That’s according to the Northern Echo, with journalist Scott Wilson claiming that the Magpies will spend the weekend in negotiations with the Serie A side for Scalvini’s signature.

Howe is aware of interest from other clubs, hence the desire to get a deal done quickly for the player, who is valued at £40m.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the manager has raided Serie A for a player. Could Scalvini become Sandro Tonali 2.0 for the club?

Why Newcastle must sign Girogio Scalvini

Tonali joined the Toon in the summer of 2023 and, aside from an eight-month ban due to gambling-related offences, he has been excellent for the club.

He missed just two league games last term, going on to register six goal involvements, while also succeeding with 59% of his dribbles, winning 55% of his ground duels and averaging 1.4 tackles per game in the top flight.

His impact saw the club secure a top-five finish, thus securing a place in the Champions League group stages.

If Scalvini joins, there is no doubt he could have the same sort of impact. He did miss the majority of last term due to injury, but throughout the 2023/24 season, he was excellent.

Hailed as a “top talent” by none other than Fabrizio Romano back in 2022, Scalvini ranked highly across a range of metrics in Serie A that season.

This proves just how good he was before his injury and now that he is back to full fitness, Howe is desperate to secure his signature.

Should he go on to have the same impact as his compatriot Tonali, Howe will have hit the jackpot once again.

Better signing than Moore: West Brom must land £45k p/w “monster”

Promotion up to the Premier League will surely be Ryan Mason’s main, intimidating task when he shortly steps into the West Bromwich Albion dug-out.

After all, Regis Le Bris managed to guide Sunderland up to the promised land during his debut campaign at the Sunderland helm, meaning the 33-year-old will be hoping that the good luck that rubbed off on the Frenchman comes his way too.

ryan-mason-tottenham-hotspur-eric-dier-lenglet-aston-villa-team-news

He would love to use his Tottenham Hotspur connections to feel more comfortable in his new surroundings. Indeed, rumours continue to swirl that Mason could soon add North London starlet Mikey Moore to his ranks on loan this summer.

West Brom's ongoing pursuit of Moore

Of course, adding Moore to the camp would be an exciting purchase to kick off Mason’s new regime.

The 17-year-old Spurs attacking prodigy will surely be champing at the bit to test himself out on loan away from his boyhood employers, considering a bumper 36 goals and assists combined have now come his way in the U18 and U21 ranks.

He even broke his senior duck last season when galloping forward in the Europa League up against Elfsborg, with the challenges of the Championship now his potential next onward destination to strut his stuff even more.

However, it could be argued that the Baggies aren’t in desperate need of reinforcements down either the left or right wing – which is where Moore predominantly operates – with both Tom Fellows and Mikey Johnston top-drawer options on these flanks already. Between them, the entertaining duo can boast 41 goal contributions and counting in the second tier.

Therefore, adding in the teenage sensation might not be deemed the most urgent priority, irrespective of Moore’s familiarity with Mason.

On the other hand, swooping in for some centre-back reinforcements will be judged as a must, with this new, defensive colossus potentially West Brom’s chosen target.

Coventry City’s Tatsuhiro Sakamoto in action with Derby County’s Ebou Adams andNathanielPhillips

The defender who could be a better signing than Moore

West Brom’s transfer activity this time around is already playing out like their business from last summer, with centre-back brute Semi Ajayi allowed to leave the Hawthorns for nothing, much like Cedric Kipre before him.

With Mason Holgate also only on the Baggies’ books on loan, that leaves the potential promotion chasers light on numbers in this department, which is where Liverpool titan Nathaniel Phillips, who has been linked with a move to the club, could come to the rescue.

Whilst Phillips has impressed infrequently for the Reds – as seen in his impressive tally of seven clean sheets from 17 Premier League clashes – it’s his expertise of the Championship when chucked out on loan away from Anfield that will instantly stick out for Mason and Co, with this headed effort last campaign for Derby County just one key contribution he managed during his memorable loan stint.

In total, the one-time Premier League title winner has now amassed 67 appearances at the daunting level, with his tag as a “monster”, as he was once labelled by Jurgen Klopp, clear for all to see last season when bravely battling away for the relegation-threatened Rams.

Indeed, the £45k-per-week powerhouse would end his sterling season with six duels won on average across his 32 Championship clashes. To add context, the departing Ajayi would only win 3.3 himself across the same period.

Therefore, adding in the “intelligent” Phillips – as Klopp also glowingly described him – could really enhance Mason’s defensive options as he goes about building a promotion-worthy team.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips.

Whereas, when it comes to the promising Moore, there’s no guarantee he would instantly upset the apple cart at the Hawthorns on his arrival and push into the first team mix, which is why Phillips would be an even better signing.

Athapaththu, Gunaratne and bowlers take dominant Sri Lanka to Asia Cup semi-final

Thailand managed just 93 after batting first, and Sri Lanka’s openers wiped the target out comfortably

Sri Lanka 94 for 0 (Athapaththu 49*, Gunaratne 39*) beat Thailand 93 for 7 (Koncharoenkai 47*, Putthawong 13, Dilhari 2-13, Priyadharshani 1-10) by ten wicketsA disciplined bowling effort from Sri Lanka, backed up by Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne’s unbeaten 94-run stand helped Sri Lanka beat Thailand by ten wickets and coast into the semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 .Batting first, Thailand’s innings never found a high gear as they were restricted to 93 for 7 in their 20 overs. Athapaththu and Gunaratne then made light work of the target, as they romped home with 51 balls to spare. The win meant Sri Lanka topped Group B with three wins on the bounce, and will now face Pakistan in the semi-final on Friday.Sri Lanka had made as many as four changes from their previous game against Malaysia, bringing back the experienced Hasini Perera, Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari and Achini Kulasuriya into the playing XI.Barring the toss, not much went Thailand’s way. They lost Nattaya Boochatham off the first ball of the game, and it all went downhill from there. Opener Nannapat Koncharoenkai was the only Thailand batter who looked settled against the Sri Lankan bowlers as she carried her bat through the innings, finishing on 47 off 53 balls. Only three Thailand batters reached double digits, while five of the Sri Lanka bowlers picked up at least one wicket. In reply, Athapaththu and Gunaratne were circumspect early on, but opened up their shoulders after the powerplay. Athapaththu remained unbeaten on 49, and during the course of her knock, became the highest run-scorer of the current edition of the Asia Cup, while Gunaratne remained 39 not out.Thailand get stuck in a rutSri Lanka couldn’t have asked for a better start, with Achini Kulasuriya, one of the four changes in the Sri Lanka unit, starting with the most perfect yorker that snuck under Boochatham’s bat and crashed into off stump. Aphisara Suwanchonrathi then got back-to-back fours in the first over, but fell soon after mistiming Inoshi Priyadharshani to mid-on.Koncharoenkai brought out a pristine cover drive against Priyadharshani before sending another classy drive past Udeshika Prabodhani, with Thailand ending the powerplay on 28 for 2. But while Koncharoenkai still got the odd boundary in, Phannita Maya, coming in at No. 4, simply failed to rotate the strike.Maya took 14 balls to get off the mark, as Thailand’s innings stalled after the powerplay. Her innings came to an end on a painful 18-ball 2 courtesy of a stunning effort from Kavisha Dilhari, who hared across from mid-off, then dived full-stretch to complete the catch inches off the turf.By the time ten overs were done, Thailand had already faced seven overs of dot balls, and slipped to 42 for 3.Nannapat Koncharoenkai was the only Thailand batter offering resistance•Asian Cricket Council

Koncharoenkai holds firm, but SL continue to strikeChanida Sutthiruang started her innings by deftly placing Athapaththu, but fell off her third ball by chipping a simple return catch to Dilhari. Thailand went five overs from 11 to 15 without finding the fence, and lost Suleeporn Laomi and Suwanan Khiaoto in the process as they found themselves stuck on 54 for 6 after 15 overs.Thipatcha Putthawong and Koncharoenkai’s seventh-wicket stand of 28 turned out to be the highest of the game as Thailand tried to muster a few runs in the back end. They did score 39 in the last five overs, including 13 off the final, but 93 was never going to be enough.Barring a dropped catch from Hasini Perera, Koncharoenkai’s 47* was largely flawless as she carried the Thailand innings all by herself. But Thailand’s 70 dot balls came back to haunt them.Gunaratne, Athapaththu make light work of small chaseSri Lanka required just 16 runs to qualify for the semi-final, and 48 to top group B. They didn’t break much of a sweat to achieve that. Both Athapaththu and Gunaratne took a bit of time to settle in. Sutthiruang, the medium pacer, got loads of swing early on but lacked control, and the openers picked her away.Athapaththu got going by depositing Boochatham over deep midwicket before going after her again in her next over for a six and four. Gunaratne’s first four came by nurdling a friendly Sutthiruang full toss past short fine leg, before she cut the same bowler through point as Sri Lanka reached 40 for 0 after six overs. Both batters notched up a gear after the powerplay. Athapaththu thumped Onnicha Kamchomphu over long-on in the ninth over, while Gunaratne struck her for a six and four each. Athapaththu then took on Maya as Sri Lanka raced towards their target. Their win came in the 12th over via a bye. Athapaththu, for her unbeaten 49 and 1 for 15 with the ball, was named Player of the Match.

Levy submits Tottenham enquiry over deal for "explosive" £40m+ rising star

Tottenham Hotspur have now submitted an enquiry over a deal for an “explosive” star, who is expected to cost in excess of £40m this summer, according to a report.

Tottenham eye new midfielder amid doubts over Bentancur's future

While Tottenham secured Champions League qualification via their Europa League triumph, their Premier League performances in the 2024-25 campaign left a lot to be desired, and new manager Thomas Frank will be hoping to oversee a major turnaround.

During his first interview as Spurs boss, Frank singled out James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dominic Solanke as three players he is excited to work with, indicating the Dane is happy with the attacking midfield options at his disposal.

However, should Bentancur refuse to sign a new contract, the Uruguayan could be moved on this summer, with a move to Atletico Madrid deemed a possibility, meaning Frank may be tasked with bringing in a replacement.

Levy now ready to smash Tottenham record by signing "unbelievable" £68m star

Spurs are willing to make a huge bid for a player who has been identified as a prime target for Thomas Frank.

ByDominic Lund Jun 29, 2025

As such, according to a report from The Boot Room, Daniel Levy and Co could look to raid one of their Premier League rivals, having now submitted an enquiry over a deal for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who is expected to cost in excess of £40m this summer.

Elliott is ready to leave the Reds, given a lack of game time last season, and first-team opportunities are likely to be even more limited in the upcoming campaign, considering Florian Wirtz’s arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool's HarveyElliottcelebrates

There is widespread interest in the 22-year-old, however, which could pose a problem for Spurs, with nearly half the Premier League submitting enquiries of their own, while Jurgen Klopp is also looking to take his former player to RB Leipzig.

"Explosive" Elliott leads England U21s to glory in Slovakia

England U21s secured a second consecutive European Championships title with a 3-2 victory over Germany on Saturday, and manager Lee Carsley has the Liverpool midfielder to thank, given that he played a major role in the triumph.

The 22-year-old picked up the Player of the Tournament award, courtesy of scoring five goals en-route to glory in Slovakia, while he has also impressed Arne Slot in the past, with the Dutchman saying: “He’s so explosive with the way that he moves and with his end product. We are very lucky to have him.”

Not only that, but the former Fulham man places ranks in the top 1% for non-penalty goals per 90 by players in his position over the past year, and the 86th percentile for assists, showcasing the attacking threat he poses.

Elliott is now at an age where he needs to be playing regular football, and his exploits for England U21s indicate he could flourish at Tottenham, so a fee of around £40m seems very reasonable.

Booth, Rhodes lay groundwork as Warwickshire squeeze home by one wicket

Warwickshire Bears continued their fine start to the Metro Bank One-Day Cup competition when they made it three wins out of three in five days – and all away from home, with the Test match taking place at Edgbaston. But they made hard work of this victory, scraping home by one wicket after looking clear favourites, having dismissed Sussex for an under-par 173. They slumped to 76 for 5 to put the match in the balance. And then, with the job done once more, they lost three wickets with the score on 149 to set up a nail-biting finale, before last man Oliver Hannon-Dalby edged Jack Carson for two to win the game.Sussex won just one match in this competition last season and their chances of progressing from Group B already look doubtful after defeats in their opening two games. But they fought to the end in this one.Warwickshire were runaway favourites after dismissing Sussex in just 35 overs. But Sussex broke through in the third over, when Rob Yates skied Ari Karvelas to backwaed square leg.It was 13 for 2 in the sixth when Ed Barnard edged Henry Crocombe to the keeper and 27 for 3 when Hamza Shaikh, who had survived a confident appeal for caught behind on 1, added just a single before lifting the same bowler to mid-on.Once again the bowlers were on top. Former Sussex player Michael Burgess was lbw to Fynn Hudson-Prentice for 11 and when Karvelas yorked Chris Benjamin for 12 the Bears were struggling, five down after 19 overs. But then a partnership of 73 in 16 overs between Will Rhodes and Kai Smith put Warwickshire in charge once more. Rhodes, on the day after he announced he would be departing Warwickshire, showed the Bears what they will be missing with an obdurate 60 from 102 deliveries. And Smith took the attack to the bowlers a run-a-ball 44.But then Smith mishit to mid-off and Hudson-Prentice produced a double-wicket maiden next over, dismissing Rhodes and Michael Booth. When Tazeem Ali was ninth out at 168 they still needed six runs, but Jake Lintott and Hannon-Dalby held firm to see their side over the line.Warwickshire decided to bowl first but captain Barnard must have reflected on his choice after Sussex openers Tom Clark and Tom Haines put on 70 in the first 10-over powerplay. But Sussex then lost all ten wickets for 72 runs in 25 overs.Neither Clark (32) nor Haines (38) was able to build on a promising beginning, both falling lbw to Booth, who generated some nippy pace bowling up the hill from the Sea End. Returning to the Warwickshire team – along with Yates – Booth was the quickest and most threatening of the Warwickshire bowlers. He dismissed Clark with the last ball of his first over, Haines with the second ball of his third. And when Oli Carter ran himself for 11 the match had changed shape. There would be no substantial recovery. Hudson-Prentice, Danial Ibrahim and John Simpson all failed to make double-figures, although the very promising Henry Rogers scored an unbeaten 25 as he attempted to shepherd the tail.

The introduction of Alana King saw the first breakthrough for the Rockets, trapping Devine LBW for 17.That brought Phoenix Captain Perry to the crease who proceeded to quickly up the run-rate alongside Kalis. Perry raced to 41 from her first 20 balls and was making the most of the batting conditions, whilst also riding some luck in being dropped on the boundary, in what ended up being an impressive 66 from 34 balls. Her partnership with Kalis put on 102 from 60, including 11 fours and four sixes, with every one of those sixes coming from the bat of Perry.Amy Jones arrived at the crease with Phoenix on 134 with four balls to go, and with Kalis, scrambled 5 more runs to leave the Phoenix innings at 139 from their 100 balls, with Jones being run out on the final delivery. That left Kalis on 48 not out, with Phoenix setting a competitive but chaseable total.Perry remained in the action in the field, firstly taking the wicket of Scrivens (6) and then catching Bryony Smith with a fantastic running effort at long-on, with Rockets at 58 for 2.Nat Sciver-Brunt came to the wicket in fine form and looked composed from the outset, reaching her sixth half-century in The Hundred with a powerful lofted drive off Hannah Baker, off just 33 balls.Rockets looked well in contention at that point but the demise of Ash Gardner, then Sciver-Brunt three balls later dragged Phoenix back into the game.Rockets needed 27 from the last 10 balls but the game wasn’t done yet.Heather Graham hit four boundaries, including a huge six off the 98th ball, to leave Rockets needing seven from the last two balls. Wraith was run out on the penultimate delivery going for the second, leaving Graham needing six to win from the final ball.To the delight of the Phoenix team, Graham could only manage two, taking her to a valiant 30 from 12 balls, but confirming Birmingham Phoenix’s first win in 13 attempts.Meerkat Match Hero Perry said: “I’m chuffed for the girls. We played with a lot of spirit today, played really positively, and it is nice to get over the line in a tight one at the end.”It took us a while to get going, but once you were in there was a breeze, so it was easy to find the pockets in the ground and build a bit of momentum with the bat. The total felt defendable, but they chased well, Heather at the end there was really unlucky not to bring it home for them, so to hold our nerve at the end was awesome.””I’m stoked for the girls; it is a great group and they play with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. You can’t worry about last season, this is a different squad, but it is something that has been spoken about around the group by other people. Hopefully people stop talking about that [12 in a row] now.”
