That figure could increase even further as well, with those at Stamford Bridge looking to make more attacking additions before Monday’s transfer deadline.
One player who won’t be making the move to Chelsea, though, is Xavi Simons. It looked as if the Netherlands international was on course to sign for Maresca’s side for large parts of the summer, however, rivals Tottenham have come in and secured the attacker’s services from RB Leipzig.
Spurs are paying more than £50m to sign Simons from under the noses of Chelsea and has been given a five-year deal contract in north London.
However, despite missing out on Simons, the Blues have had more luck when it comes to another long-term attacking target.
Chelsea agree £40m Garnacho deal with Man Utd
That’s because Chelsea have agreed a fee with Manchester United for the signing of Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Chelsea will pay a £40million fixed fee for the 21-year-old, as per the PA news agency, with United retaining a 10 per cent sell-on fee clause. The deal represents Man Utd’s fourth-largest sale after the transfers of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria, and is the largest fee received for a graduate from the Red Devils’ academy.
The Blues initially offered a fee of £25million for a player who has scored 26 goals in 144 games for United, two of which actually came at Stamford Bridge in 2024. Garnacho will follow Marcus Rashford out of the Red Devils door to become the second member of United’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ of unwanted players to secure a move away from Old Trafford.
Chelsea have already signed Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian in a revamp of their attack this summer, and Garnacho is likely to compete with Gittens on the left wing.

The deal for Garnacho, called a “diamond” by Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout, comes as Christopher Nkunku closes in on a move from Chelsea to AC Milan in a deal understood to be worth around £36million.
The Premier League have explained why Nathan Collins was not given his marching orders by referee Craig Pawson in Brentford's 3-1 victory over Manchester United. The Irish defender looked set to be shown a red card when he hauled down Bryan Mbeumo in the penalty area and denied what appeared to be an obvious goalscoring opportunity. However, the Premier League have explained why it was not a red card.
Collins brings down Mbeumo in the box
After 71 minutes, and with United having already pulled back one goal in their quest to overhaul a two-goal deficit, Matheus Cunha slipped Mbeumo through and beyond the Bees' defence. The Cameroonian forward looked set to get onto the end of the ball and fire a shot on goal, but Collins grabbed his opponent and prevented him from reaching the ball. On first viewing, Collins seemed to have denied Mbeumo an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but was only handed a yellow card by the referee and the decision confirmed by VAR.
AdvertisementGetty Images SportThe Premier League offer an explanation
The Premier League offered a justification of the decision on X, posting: "The referee’s call of penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Collins deemed to pulled Mbeumo back. VAR also checked the referee’s call of yellow card to Collins – and deemed that Mbeumo wasn’t in control of the ball."
United fans may not be too satisfied with the explanation and debate over whether Pawson and the VAR team made the right decision will no doubt continue in the coming days. Mbeumo did not have control of the ball when he was brought down in the penalty area, but he had seemed likely to reach the ball and fire an effort on goal. The double-jeopardy rule, which states a defender making a genuine attempt to play the ball while fouling an opponent cannot be also given a red card, also does not protect Collins in this situation, given his only intention was to impede the onrushing attacker. The Irish defender can count himself fortunate that the Premier League officials deemed Mbeumo too far from the ball to truly have an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Fernandes falters, Bees buzz
The Red Devils were two goals down after just 20 minutes in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, with Igor Thiago taking advantage of United's leaky defence to fire them ahead. Benjamin Sesko then added his first goal in a United shirt after 26 minutes to give the away side a glimmer of hope that they would get back into the game. Amorim's side continued to push for a leveller and when Mbeumo was brought down, they would have expected to equalise and have enough time to push for a winner. Yet, that would soon prove not to be the case.
The time between the foul and Bruno Fernandes' eventual spot-kick lasted five minutes, with stoppages for VAR checks and Brentford substitutions slowing the game down. United, already feeling aggrieved that they were still up against 11 players, had their frustrations compounded when their skipper's weak penalty was saved by a sprawling Caoimhin Kelleher. The penalty miss added to the dismay at Collins' yellow card, for the foul on Mbeumo ultimately went unpunished by the Red Devils. The Bees were able to see off further United attacks and even added a third, game-sealing goal through Mathias Jensen in the dying moments of the game.

Getty Images SportUnited slip to 12th and remain short of ideas
The win for Brentford meant the Bees leapfrogged Amorim's side into 11th spot at the Red Devils' expense. United's tumultuous start to the Premier League season continues and their hunt to earn back-to-back wins in the league for the first time under their Portuguese coach. In fact, United have failed to win consecutive games in the Premier League since the start of the last season when they beat Fulham on the first game of the season, following a victory against Brighton in the final fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.
The upcoming fixture list does not get any easier for United either with a home game against high-flying Sunderland followed by a trip to league leaders Liverpool. The Red Devils have not beaten the Reds at Anfield since 2016 and have endured their fair share of thrashings in that time, usually at the ruthless hands of Mohamed Salah. Before Amorim can even think about taking on Arne Slot's side though, there is no guarantee they will bounce back against the Black Cats next week, who are above them in the league with a game in hand.

Speaking after the match, Gary Neville urged Ruben Amorim on Sky Sports to buy a new goalkeeper after Altay Bayindir’s error that led to Riccardo Calafiori’s goal, citing movement on a new number one as a pivotal part of their remaining business.
He stated: “There is a glaring issue for United that cannot be ignored and that is they need to find a new goalkeeper. ‘They have to, I am absolutely unequivocal on that.
“I have experience at United for 20 years where there were two big periods of seven or eight years with Schmeichel and Van der Sar, and in between we had seven or eight goalkeepers in a seven or eight year period.”
David De Gea has been linked with a surprise return to Manchester United after rediscovering his form at Fiorentina. However, Amorim is also plotting other additions with the window only a couple of weeks away from closing.
The Red Devils’ pursuit of Carlos Baleba has hit the skids. Nevertheless, Valencia star Javi Guerra has emerged as an alternative to fill the hole in the engine room, given he is available at a much cheaper price point than over £100 million.
Looking to keep their options open, Manchester United took the opportunity to watch one of their targets in action over the weekend.
Manchester United scout Adam Wharton at Stamford Bridge
According to TBR Football, Manchester United sent scouts to watch Adam Wharton against Chelsea last Sunday as Crystal Palace emerged with a valiant point at Stamford Bridge.
Amorim is impressed with his profile and believes he can fit into the holding role, which the Red Devils are looking to fill, and he certainly took his chance to sign after putting up 100% successful dribbles and eight passes into the final third.

It should be noted that Wharton moving to Old Trafford is deemed unlikely. Regardless, the Red Devils casting their eyes on his progress is certainly something to watch over the coming weeks.
Last term, the former Blackburn Rovers man appeared 27 times and helped Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory. He has also been labelled “generational” by Matthew Stanger, lending credence to the level of talent he possesses.
With competition set to be fierce for his signature, Manchester United will hope to put forward a compelling case to the 21-year-old as he mulls over his future.

Here’s a detailed look at Arsenal’s 10 most expensive signings:
10 Alexandre Lacazette £46.5m from Lyon, 2017
French forward Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal in 2017 from Lyon after spending his entire career with the Ligue 1 side.
He went on to have five years at the Emirates, making more than 200 appearances and scoring 71 times, winning the FA Cup. Lacazette left Arsenal on a free transfer, returning to Lyon where he will go down as a club icon.
9 Ben White £50m from Brighton, 2021
After starring out on loan with Leeds United in the Championship and making an impact in the Premier League with Brighton, Arsenal won the race to sign Ben White in 2021.
The versatile defender has been a regular for Arsenal since then and has been transformed into a right-back under Arteta, with his contract with the Gunners running until 2028.
8 Noni Madueke £52m from Chelsea, 2025
Noni Madueke was one of Arsenal’s first summer signings of 2025, swapping Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in a deal worth a total of £52m.
The Gunners would go on to spend a lot more ahead of the 2025/26 season, with Madueke penning a five-year contract.
7 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang £56m from Borussia Dortmund, 2018
In 2018, Arsenal spent big to add more firepower to their attack, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joining from Borussia Dortmund. In total, Aubameyang would go on to score 92 goals in 163 appearances, scoring the winner in the 2020 FA Cup final.
Aubameyang and Lacazette struck up a good relationship in north London, but like his former strike partner, he left Arsenal in 2022 before returning to England for a short stint with Chelsea.
6 Martin Zubimendi £60m from Real Sociedad, 2025
Central midfielder Martin Zubimendi almost signed for Liverpool in 2024, however, six months later, Arsenal were putting plans in place to sign the Spaniard ahead of those at Anfield.
A transfer was put in place in January 2025 and Zubimendi moved to north London six months later.
5 Viktor Gyokeres £63m from Sporting CP
Signing a new striker was Arsenal’s biggest priority in 2025, and Viktor Gyokeres was the centre-forward tasked with leading the Gunners’ line.
After scoring for fun with Sporting CP, Arsenal spent a total of £63m to win the race for the Sweden international, who only wanted the Gunners.
4 Kai Havertz £65m from Chelsea, 2023
Chelsea recouped the majority of the transfer fee they paid Bayer Leverkusen for Kai Havertz when selling him to Arsenal in 2023, with the German attacker penning a five-year deal at the Emirates.
The versatile forward has been deployed in numerous positions by Arteta so far and looks to be a valuable signing going forward.
3 Eberechi Eze £67.5m from Crystal Palace, 2025
Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal in 2025 was one of the most dramatic, with the attacking midfielder so close to joining rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Before he signed for Spurs on the dotted line, boyhood Gunner Eze phoned Arteta, which led to Arsenal hijacking a transfer and sealing a deal with Crystal Palace worth a total of £67.5m.
2 Nicolas Pepe £72m from Lille, 2019
A big-money signing that ultimately didn’t work out was Nicolas Pepe. Arsenal splashed the cash on the Ivorian back in 2019 after starring in France for Lille.
However, Pepe never really got to grips with life in England and, after making 112 appearances for the club, scoring 27 times, left in 2023 on a free transfer despite having 12 months remaining on his contract at the time.
1 Declan Rice £105m from West Ham, 2023
Declan Rice
Comfortably Arsenal’s record signing, Declan Rice was also wanted by Manchester City during the summer of 2023, but it was the Gunners who won the race after laying plenty of groundwork months prior.
The England international is under contract until 2028, so he looks set to be an important member of Arteta’s side for years to come.
“To hold back Krunal for the 20th over made absolute sense” – Bangar also praised Patidar’s captaincy

Is 2025 finally going to be RCB’s year?
The popular Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) slogan, , which translates to “this year the cup is ours”, has been doing the rounds over the years in IPL. It’s never happened, not with the men’s team. But Ambati Rayudu believes IPL 2025 could be that year – 18th time lucky.”If you look at their team, they have a pretty set combination,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show. “If you see the teams that are not doing well in the IPL, they are still trying their combinations. But RCB is one team, along with Delhi [Capitals (DC) and Punjab [Kings (PBKS)] to some extent, who have got their combinations well set for the season.”I have always enjoyed their [RCB’s] cricket. We have fun at their expense, only because nobody talks about DC or Punjab. Only because RCB always has a team that can win the IPL. But somehow, they come short because of their own shortcomings. Nobody else defeats them, it’s them. But this year, with [Rajat] Patidar [as captain], (this year the cup is RCB’s).”Related

In Patidar’s first year as captain, RCB have won all their three away games – in Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai – so far and lost one at home to sit third on points table following their 12-run victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday. Only net run-rate separates table-toppers DC, second-placed Gujarat Titans (GT) and RCB.Sanjay Bangar echoed Rayudu views and heaped praise on Patidar’s captaincy and tactics during the game against MI. Chasing 222, MI needed 138 runs from the final ten overs, and they had brought the equation down to 52 from four overs with six wickets in hand and, at that stage, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya looked set to finish it off. However, Patidar’s use of fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazelwood, and left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya at the death saw RCB eke out a win. While Bhuvneshwar bowled the 16th and 18th overs, Hazlewood bowled the penultimate one. Handing over the ball to Krunal for the last one was also an unusual move but worked for RCB as he picked up three wickets and defended 18.”For me, the biggest takeaway in that captaincy during those 20 overs is getting Bhuvi early,” Rayudu said. “Because you generally associate Bhuvi to bowling either 19th or 20th. But getting Bhuvi early when they really needed experience, when they needed to get the game back into their control, I felt was a brilliant move.Rajat Patidar has led RCB to three wins from four matches•Associated Press
“Because he could have gone [to] Krunal again, thinking that we have Hazlewood and Bhuvi. But even the execution from Bhuvi and Hazlewood was amazing. And this also shows this IPL is different, because there is no dew. Bowling yorkers even in the second innings has become slightly more easier. And also with the use of saliva. “Bangar said that having just five bowlers might have been an “advantage as well” for RCB because Hardik “had numerous options” and “probably MI didn’t really use the resources” at the right time.”But that wasn’t the case with RCB,” Bangar said. “I just guess that also the type of batsmen that were there at No. 3 and No. 4 allowed Rajat to bowl those spinners [Krunal and Suyash Sharma] in tandem. Which wasn’t the case with MI. Because MI always had this at the back of their mind. That they don’t have to bowl spin to Rajat Patidar. And that played in RCB’s hands. So he was pretty smart with that particular thing.”And to hold back Krunal for the 20th over made absolute sense. Because you don’t really want him to be bowling the 19th over, with Josh Hazlewood only having 10 or 12 to defend. So all in all, a very good day out for Rajat.”For all you know, before the season began, everybody was talking about RCB not really having the depth in the spin department but here you have eight overs of spin [were] bowled at Wankhede and quite effectively, which was probably the difference between winning and losing.”
Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi confessed that he "dreams of wearing the AC Milan shirt" one day, adding that he regularly watches Massimiliano Allegri's team. This past summer, the Rossoneri signed Swiss international Ardon Jashari from Brugge in what was a record transfer fee received by the Belgian Pro League giants. Tresoldi dreams of following a similar pathway to the Serie A.
Tresoldi assist not enough in UCL defeat to Atalanta
Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen continued to place his faith in young forward Tresoldi on Tuesday, with the former Hannover wonderkid delivering an assist for Christos Tzolis' 38th-minute strike, which fired the Belgian heavyweights into the lead against Atalanta in their Champions League encounter. However, it wasn't enough as second-half goals from Lazar Samardzic and Mario Pasalic dented Brugge's hopes of recording successive wins in the competition.

Tresoldi wants to play for AC Milan
Speaking to reporters after the game, the Italy-born German said: "I'm happy to play for Club Brugge, but one day I'd like to experience the thrill of playing in Italy. I dream of wearing the AC Milan jersey; I'm a fan and I follow the Rossoneri a lot."
Ardon Jashari has already set benchmark at Brugge
Over the summer, Club Brugge received a club-record transfer fee worth €39 million (£34m/$46m) from Milan after intense negotiations between the two clubs. Tresoldi, who has scored nine goals in 18 games for the Germany under-21 side, will be determined to put himself in the spotlight with similarly strong showings in the Champions League this season. The Cagliari-born striker has scored two goals and registered as many assists in six Champions League outings (which include qualifying play-offs).

When will Jashari feature for Milan again?
Jashari is currently recovering from a compound fracture on the right fibula, which he sustained following a collision in training with team-mate Santiago Gimenez. It is expected that the young midfielder will return to team training in November or early December. As for the Rossoneri, they will take on an in-form Juventus side on Sunday, with the motive of going into the international break as Serie A leaders.
Harry Kane scripted more Bundesliga history as he scored in Bayern Munich's 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Former Liverpool star Luis Diaz also had a fabulous outing as he contribute with a brace including his first goal which came in the 15th second of the game. Kane is now the first player in history to score 11 goals in his six league appearances in a season.
TELL ME MORE
It took Bayern Munich less than 15 seconds to break the deadlock as Luis Diaz scored the opener in the first minute of the match. The move started with Kane sending the ball to Neuer from kick-off, which the veteran goalkeeper received and came out of the penalty box before launching a long kick. Kane again flicked the ball inside the penalty box, which was poorly cleared by Robin Koch as the ball went back to Serge Gnabry. The German winger entered the box from the right and found Diaz with a square pass and the Colombian comfortably pushed the ball into the net.
The visitors momentarily thought that they were back in the game as Jean-Matteo Bahoya scored the equaliser in the 14th minute. Ritsu Doan was the key architect of the move as he cut to his left foot and found Hugo Larsson on the edge of the box. Larsson failed to connect with the ball properly and missed his chance to shoot but got enough touch to push the ball towards Bahoya to find the back of the net. However, following a VAR check, the referee cancelled the equaliser as Doan had accidentally handled the ball, while he cut on to his left foot.
Just minutes before the half-hour mark, Kane doubled his team's lead. Joshua Kimmich initiated the move with an inch-perfect pass to Luis Diaz near the penalty box. The Colombian then squared the ball for Kane on the edge and the England captain scored with a powerful shot. Kane could have doubled his tally just 10 minutes after the break as he found himself in a shooting position in the six-yard box, but his shot hit the woodwork and went out.
Towards the end of the game, Diaz piled on Frankfurt's misery as he completed his brace. The Colombian followed a pass inside the box and beat Koch with some silky skills before finding the back of the net.
Kane had to be subbed off a minute after the third goal as he injured his ankle following a challenge from Kaua Santos. He returned to the pitch for a few seconds before Vincent Kompany replaced him with Nicolas Jackson.

Kane was once again the most prolific Bayern player on the pitch tonight. After initiating the move from which Diaz eventually scored the opening goal, he himself got his name on the scoresheet to double his team's lead with a brilliant strike.
Getty Images SportTHE BIG LOSER
Frankfurt centre-back Koch had a night to forget as he was at fault for two of the three goals Bayern scored tonight. Koch's lazy clearance allowed Gnabry to enter the box before he fed Diaz with a perfect ball for his opening. Then, towards the end of the game, Diaz made a mockery of the defender by going past him inside the box and scored the third goal.
